SolStrip LED lighting: Product info and announcements

I cant remember for sure, but I think there was some discussion about reflectors and lenses early in the thread.

Hey everyone, nearing the end of a two-week jaunt to Spain so pardon my response time here, looks like a lot of interest in SolStrips, and a lot of good advice from the community also.

On overdriving, the Samsung is a tough chip, I’ve never fried one by overdriving and boy I’ve tried… However, anything above 50w per strip (X2) is mostly burned off as heat not light. If you want more photons, get more strips rather than adding watts.

@Mr.Sparkle Re: shipping , without getting too specific on individual orders, I can only say that I base shipping charges on actual cost plus $2 for packaging and handling- and the label you show doesn’t look like mine. Not saying its not the label that came on your order, but it seems to be added by your domestic postal service, perhaps once it reached your shores. It may not have included the cost of shipping to the port of export in the US. If you have concerns about it, I can check when I’m back in California later this week. The stated cost for the weight is very low, I often can’t ship 2 lbs across the US for that much via first class post.

However, sometimes my intl shipping calculator used on the webstore is off, if anyone ever feels their shipping quote is too high, just drop me a line and I’ll double-check.

SolStrip specs are listed in the “details” section of each strip’s web page description, but no SolStrips are custom designed and I don’t recommend any lenses be used. It cuts light output with any opposing benefit.

Hey @spillz907 I’ve put together several kits to try to take a lot of the learning curve out of putting SolStrip systems together…Also I address many of the common questions in the Photonics blog on the SolStrip website. And always happy to help spec out specific projects. Give me a couple of days to get back Stateside and I’ll shoot you a PM here.

thanks man i emailed you today about shipping (already ordered) thanks for getting back with me

no worries just letting you know, and that was a label from your side of the boarder, and it was usps instead of your regular ups, as ups dings us really hard when stuff crosses borders as they typically tack on a min of $40-50 extra no mater what it is.

hi
i’m really interested on X3 stripes and wanna order 3 of them. which drive should I use so I can dim from max power till the min (hlg B series bcs I’ll use a potentiometer).
Do you ship to Brazil??
thanks bro

I’d recommend an HLG-185H-36B driver for 3 X3 SolStrips.
We ship worldwide, including Brazil…
If you order the B driver through us, be sure to add on the dimmer installation.

Thanks for the answer
now I have a problem hahaha. Yesterday my friend gave me a tent of 1m2 (the one I use has 0.4m2) and I think that I need 12x X3 SolStrips to light up perfectly right?
That’s the problem, every 1 dollar is costing more than 4 BRL now.
if I use 6x X3 can I grow 5 plants? I’ll buy more leds in a few months after the dollar goes down.

I’m new at this, but I have (12) X3’s in a 1.5 sq meter space. I don’t need any more light, but probably wouldn’t want any less. I think they are a perfect fit. I feel that spreading (6) X3’s in 1.0 sq meter might be less than you want to see. I think 10 inch spacing between strips is perfect, so that puts two rows of four in your tent. I would buy (8) strips.
You can grow as many plants as you want, depending on the method you choose. I feel that 5 might be one too many for that space, but that’s just me. I’ll be interested in what the OG gang has to say!

Thanks Bro.
I asked if only 6x were needed to grow 5 plants because my complete set would be 12x for 10 plants. 4 bucks for dollar are f*kng me so I’m going to buy half now and half in a few weeks.
Let’s wait OG gang!! Haha

What @bisceg said. But of course you could always start with 6 and add on later. That’s one of the big advantages of SolStrips’ design. They are designed for expansion and growth as your needs require.

Perhaps you can make your “fixture” adaptable.
Start with 6, with the bigger spacing, then add later.
The important thing is to grow, you will be happy with these lights, even with just 6.
I grow with only 4 cobs (normally at just 50w each) in 1 square foot.
Not bad at all imho.

I’m thinking that you should buy (4) strips and (1) HLG‑240H‑36B driver now and build them 10" apart. Then grow whatever makes sense under that, maybe three plants. Then, you could double the setup when you can afford it?

Nice
using as an example the bisceg area (12 strips for 1.5 sqm = 4x strips each 0.5sqm => 8x for 1sqm).
This is good because it will reduce my cost.
less tapes = smaller driver = less money.
I hope that next week I’ll buy them
I still have a question, using the x3 tapes (2x 2700 + 1x 5700) can I use for veg and bloom?
thank you.

Those X3 strips are mixed so they can work very well for both veg and bloom.

For a 1 x 1M tent i would use 6 of the X3 strips and run them off an HLG 320. I recently built an X3 rig for a friend and it has 8 strips in total for a 1.2 x 1.2M space. He’s got them running off 2 HLG 240 drivers.

Hello growers, can you advise me what dimmer will work on the driver
HLG-120H-48B?

GrowMau5 has a video on the ChilLED channel where he discusses this dimmer. Based off that, I would suggest this one.
