All good stuff @Heliosphear !
I have to agree. Love those guys. @MoBilly you know how a song will keep your head up. This one did it for me.
I saw him play in 1995 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was musical director for Dionne Farris, who was opening for Dave Matthews Band at the amazing Paolo Soleri Amphitheater. The venue holds under 700 people, iirc, and was among the greatest outdoor venues in the world while it was active. This was just before DMB blew up and started playing stadiums. Dave Matthews brought David Ryan Harris out during his set to jam on two tunes (Jimi Thing and a cover of Bob Marley’s Exodus).
This weekend I attended a music festival which featured acts that were all women or led by women - see my recent post with Tank And The Bangas. Today I caught Southern Avenue, Mavis Staples, and Sheryl Crow. I had seen Sheryl once before on H.O.R.D.E tour in 1994 - also in Santa Fe, but this time at the Downs racetrack. Big Head Todd, Blues Traveler, and the Allman Brothers were on the lineup as well.
Mavis brings down the house even in her 80s. She played this Talking Heads cover today:
And I saw this mariachi band, Flor de Toloache.
I normally don’t get into overly saturated vocals-
But something about the spaghetti western vibe, has this one stuck in my brain’s auto repeat list…
