I’d guess iron…if it was copper we’d be looking at an open pit mine.

I agree with Pete on both counts. Looking at those runs of color, they really look like iron oxide, aka rust. For me, the variety of tans to browns is the key.
Whatever it is, it’s really beautiful!

No, the wrapper is not plastic. The wrapper is celophane, something invented around the turn of the 20th century. Plastic, on the other hand, wasn’t invented until the late-1940s/early-1950s.
