Doesn’t work I drive a stick and seem to have no problem texting when I need to 
I bought my first car when I was 15, in 1965, and owned at least one motor vehicle (mostly trucks) until earlier this year, when I decided to stop driving. I never owned an automatic. Not one. Of course, I had to drive them on occasion (generally rentals), but never owned one.
When I was taught to drive, I was told learn on a stick and you’ll be able to drive anything. I thought we all grew up at least driving a stick shift at some point or other. My wife is a year older than me and has never driven a stick shift
I learned to drive 3 on the tree!
I’ve own many motorcycles but never learned how to shift stick.
That was my first I believe a Plymouth Valiant

Yep my first car was a 2000 Neon stick shift. Piece of junk but it was good to learn
