In Brazil, this couple planted 2 million trees in 18 years, returning 172 bird species, 33 mammals, 15 amphibians, 15 reptiles and 293 plant species.
The whole world should know them. This is Lélia Wanick and Sebastião Salgado.
The couple decided to start the Terra Institute, a small organization that planted 2 million plants and revived the forest.
“There is only one creature that can convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, and that is a tree.” We need to replant the forests. "
Using only local plants, the couple rebuilt the entire ecosystem from scratch and the area flourished significantly, allowing the fauna to return; thanks to their work, Lélia and Sebastião saved dozens of endangered species.
“The earth was sad as I was, everything was destroyed. Then my wife got a fantastic idea to replant this forest: all the insects, fish and birds returned, and thanks to the new growth of the trees I was born again.”

My folks have something like that in their ‘living room’, it’s sunken by 3 steps in half the room, they built in 1968.
No one goes in there these days, they are old enough now to be afraid of steps and they have to pay someone to vacuum it. There are multiple levels throughout the house…sucks that Dad needs a walker…but dam it was cool for like 20 years.

Did You Know? The History of the Middle Finger…
Well, now…,… here’s something I never knew before, and now that I know it, I feel compelled to share with my intelligent friends in the hopes that they too, will feel blessed in having gained more knowledge. History is way more fun when you know more fun facts about it, don’t you agree?
Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as ‘plucking the yew’ (or ‘pluck yew’), Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, See, we can still pluck yew!
Over the decades Americans have since changed up the words , the ‘pluck yew’ is now “f**K you” and the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as ‘giving the bird.’ And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing.

That made me think of this tongue twister:

I’m a mother pheasant plucker, I pluck mother pheasants.
I’m the most pleasant mother pheasant plucker to ever pluck a mother pheasant.
I’m not the pheasant plucker I’m the pheasant plucker’s wife, I’ve been plucking Mother pheasants my whole pheasant plucking life.
I’m not the pheasant plucker I’m the pheasant plucker’s mate, I’m only plucking Pheasants ’cause the pheasant plucker’s late.

that’s pretty close to what i’ve heard except it wasn’t the middle finger, it’s the peace sign. they cut off the first two fingers of the longbowmen, and then flashing both of them gave us the peace sign. time to go look to see which one was right.
