Actor Richard Gere took part in a social experiment by disguising himself as a homeless person, and it turned out to be a profound experience. He shared, "I dressed up as a homeless person, and no one noticed. People walked past me, looking at me with disgust.
Only one kind lady offered me food. The experience was truly eye-opening.
We often forget to appreciate what we have and how fortunate we are. If we can help someone, we should do it without hesitation. That’s why I wanted to do this experiment.
Afterward, I drove around town, handing out food and giving $100 to every homeless person I met. Their tears of gratitude were overwhelming.
Be the change you want to see today."
— Richard Gere
It’s simple really.
Don’t be an asshole.
Remember everyone you meet has some sort of stress in their lives. Be aware of that possibility and do your best not to contribute to it.
Forgive others if you can for their fear, anxiety and thoughtlessness.
People suck. Love them anyway.
Get out of your own headspace. Focus outward. Remember, it’s not usually about you.
Take in more experiences. Consider them. Try to judge less. Diversity is strength.
Do your best to not be the main-character. Everyone has a part. -Some large. Some small. It changes from moment to moment.
Be ready to play your part, but don’t embrace drama or exaggeration.
Recognize both and don’t feed them.
Ask good questions. Recognize good answers.
Be helpful. Be kind. Be encouraging or be quiet.
A complaint without a solution is just air & noise.
Don’t dwell in the past, nor focus too much on trying to guess at the unwritten future.
The information is unavailable to the mortal.
Be here now.
Work. Take action. Be industrious and keep active. Everyday.
Rest once the light goes out.
Drink water often.
