Forum Guides

This is the fourth and final chapter in the forum guides series:

Key Values

The key values of the Overgrow community are mutual respect and respect for privacy.

Rules

  1. Every user account used for promotion must be easily identifiable. Each account should have the title “Sponsor” and belong to the user group “Sponsors” in order to access Sponsor’s site features. If you want to designate a new user account for promotion, change your username, or need any other action, please inform us through a PM.

  2. You must not engage in any activity that goes against netiquette, including spamming, trolling, using hateful speech, or disclosing private messages or emails.

  3. You may start your promotional topics exclusively in the #sponsored category (you can also self-moderate those threads). *Self-moderation is done through the flagging system - See “Calling for Assistance” section below.

  4. You may only post outside of your promotional topics when tagged or directly asked for input by another user. Other posts outside of the #sponsored category are allowed only if they do not resemble advertisements in nature or content.

  5. You must not actively use PMs to send unsolicited advertisements. However, you can reply to a member’s PM and provide support for your products.

Recommendations

We also have some rules that are purely technical, but they help with usability and organization. They can be summarized as “Keep the discussion on track.”

  • Stay on topic
  • Post in the relevant category
  • Do not change the topic in the middle of the discussion

It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the forum features (you can find more information in the Guide for Members). For sponsors, the following features are of top importance:

  • Using tags to make topics searchable
  • Properly selecting the relevant category to place a topic (commercial offers and advertisements should be placed in #sponsored)
  • How to use “@” to mention people (this is useful for giveaways and contests)
  • Using private messages
  • Notifications

Calling for Assistance

You can always ask our staff for assistance by flagging the posts of others (as spam or inappropriate). For more information on how to use flags, please refer to this guide.

You can call for assistance by mentioning @teamog in your own post so that our staff receives a notification to look at your post.

Self-Moderation

Sponsors can self-moderate their own topics in the #sponsored category. This means that users in the Sponsors group can perform certain moderation duties. Specifically, they are able to:

  • Edit posts
  • Open/close topics in #sponsored
  • Archive topics
  • Move posts from a topic
  • Add/remove staff notices
  • Pin/unpin topics (:warning: requires approval from admin. By default, all topics in #sponsored are sorted by the last post)

Sponsors cannot replace staff (admin/mods) with regards to the following:

  • View user info, including email address
  • Suspend, silence, anonymize, and delete users
  • Adjust a user’s trust level

(these actions can only be performed by staff)

How to Self-Moderate

Actions with posts can be performed by clicking on the three dots under any post and then selecting the pencil :pencil2: icon to edit the post or the trash bin icon to delete it. A previously deleted post can be restored by clicking the counterclockwise arrows :arrows_counterclockwise: icon.
