SolStrip LED lighting: Product info and announcements

Interesting… Did not know that. Thinking of having driver outside of tent for less heat in the tent.

If you can mount it on a wall next to the tent and keep the cable length under 2m then you should be fine. If you notice the power isn’t hitting the true driver draw when on full shorten the cable a little more :+1:

Voltage drop is mitigated by wire gauge as well as length. Use some 14-16 gauge insulated 2-conductor cord and you can run up to 2 meters /6 ft without appreciable loss. All drivers sold at Solstrip.com are cabled with 4 feet of 16 awg copper.

Finding proper connectors that will handle 300-600 watts is another matter. We have ours custom-made. If we didn’t, I’d probably just wire the 16 awg cable through the glands and use a waterproof cable joiner like this:

@ReikoX can’t wait to see your beast.

Very cool, thanks! I think with that and the connector you showed, plus the gland would be a recipe for extending the wires between a driver and the leds so that it could be remote.

@Baudelaire any sneak peak you can give us as to what will be available on the site once it’s up?

:smirk::smirk::smirk::smirk:

I saw a few posts back you mentioned some new tech etc.

Basically, new upgraded strips and a board featuring the Samsung 301B and 301H chips, a comprehensive design upgrade for the SolSheetz line, and three new SolStix Rax offerings.

The new X2-3500H:

An upgraded X3 strip, using the Samsung 301B chip:

And our first board, the X4-3500H:

Veryyyyyyy niiiiceeee… I’m starting a new build within the next month, will definitely be eyeing your new stuff…

Are those x2’s using the 301h diodes?

All the stuff looks pretty much cutting edge… I’ll be watching for the site to go live

Yes the X2’s and X4’s use the Samsung 301H, SL bin - top bin available. Best horticultural LED in terms of efficiency and spectrum available, in the best bin available. The X3 strip uses the equally good 301B chip, in SL bin, in a dual-band configuration of 3000K (67%) and 5700K (33%).

That’s great news… I’ve been hoping to use some 301h at some point…

If I was driving the x2’s at 1 amp , would they need a heat sink?

Right now my plan would be wiring 4 of them in series on an HLG-120H-C1400b which has a constant current region of 54-108v and a current of 1.4 amps.

I would probably dim to about 100 watts from the wall, which should be right about 1 amp.

So far that’s my plan, it would allow me to reuse a driver I already have and get to test out the 301h’s.

Also, will there be an announcement here when the site is up?

Thanks for reading!

The X2s are designed for parallel circuits. You could wire them in series but you’d likely use a bit of wire (pos and neg connectors are at opposite ends of the strip). We sell a 100w Mean Well dimmable driver with constant voltage (24v) for about $45. I use it to run 6 X2s on a clone bench, delivers about 400 PPFD across a 2x4 space.

Site should be up over the weekend. Yes, I will announce the launch here.

I’m actually building for a 2x2 tent so the fixture would probably only be 12x18 inches.

Would that be too large for wiring them in series?

Maybe ill look into putting 3 of the boards in series if they are small enough

Im sort of bent on reusing my driver :smirk:
