@PhilCuisine had some pollen that he kept in his freezer for 15 years with his beans and had a viable fertilization.I still can’t wrap my head around that one
Yeah, have no idea how long pollen last. I know that I gave some of my PPP out over 6 months after collected and it still did the job. It was stored in an airtight Tupperware with that portable dehumidifier in with it. Who knows how much longer it would be viable. I have some in the freezer as well and will start playing with it one day
So damn cool!
Absolutely beautiful
Here’s one of the fruits of that PPP pollen @DougDawson johnny’s NL5 x PPP
@LegsMahoney How long do you normally let your seeds go for? I only ask because i have some sour d x pure gooey 18, and mazar x pure gooey 18 as well.
Pollinated them in the 3rd week or so of flower and took em 9.
My first pollen chuck took but none of the seeds wanted to sprout. Out of 10 i have 5 left. One popped but it started growing in the wrong direction lol. All the others it seemed like the shell was too hard or something was stopping them from popping. Just curious of others techniques.
And @DougDawson plants looking great buddy. Cant wait to get me some of that pollen if theres enough
Thanks
HG
Love it! Not to detract from the Sour Bubble thread but I will hopefully be receiving and popping some of those PPP beans soon - they sound absolutely fantastic and your seedling cross looks GREAT!
hey, im assuming youre talking about how long i veg plants for? for outdoors ill keep em in these 6" pots until they show sex, and then ill put em outside in thier final size pots for the season if the weather is right.
That info is helpful but, i more so meant with this pollination or if you’ve done any in the past how long do you take them for viable seeds? I took mine 3.5-4 weeks. Some came out tiger stripped but still didn’t wanna pop. Just in yours or anyones humble opinion why is that. Can dud pollen still make beans??
And I’m sorry for going off topic @DougDawson not trying to hijack the magnificent things going on in here lol. More so just curious and a little stoned.
Don’t sweat it. It’s an interesting question. I am thinking dud pollen would not make seeds. I would think 4 weeks is just not long enough, I am shooting for around 8 but I am no expert.
That was my thinking but then you pop on over to Jinglepots Sour D thread and his 3.5 weeks beans are popping. I know i can get at least 1-2 to pop but i just meant i wonder if it is the pollen or just duration of gestation lol.
Hey, apologies for misunderstanding your question. So I’m by no means an expert having only made seeds once so far, but my understanding from asking other, more experienced growers like @DougDawson is that 6 weeks is roughly the bare minimum time you want to let seeds mature. At 8 weeks like Doug says I think everything gets a chance to cook to well done, so it really turns into a dance of pollinating things with enough viable
pistils to accept the pollen and enough time left in the plants natural flower cycle to allow the beans to mature. I hope that’s at least a little helpful, like I said I’m nowhere close to an expert, still learning a lot myself, but if there’s more I can help with feel free to fire me a PM so we keep our man Doug’s thread here focused on his good work with BOGs legendary genetics!
Edit: I would imagine too that maturation time varies with the cultivar as well. Some varieties mature more seeds faster etc.? Someone jump in and help me here haha
When they start falling out of the buds 10 weeks isn’t unheard of. Nothing worst than 60 % are white immature from not letting them go long enough
Well a great pollen collection today. Plants were a bit dry but they have had a good soaking to runoff now.I put the last Sour Bubble in the tent in the end and put the 4 Grape Punch in the tent across from it so they are going to be on 12/12 now. Don’t need to be very big but I want them to get going. Here are you plants,
And the pollen they gave me today, best day yet.
Oh and by the way, been playing some 80’s ballads for them and it seems to be working. We can clearly see these buds are pollinated Seeds are a comin.
That top picture is a beauty
Thankfully sour bubble is a super quick plant so we’ll have a final report soon .
Those boys are dumping!
Looking fantastic @DougDawson ! They are definitely pollinated
Hey! That was only 1 of 9 seeds that popped. I totally didn’t expect it to pop that’s why I called it a 420 miracle . My Sour diesels are at 8 weeks now and still have at least 2 or 3 more weeks before they are ready
