Drain The Pool!
On Oct 8th my home in Napa CA. Burned down completely and I evacuated literally with flames licking at my heals. 4 days later trapped in a smoky hotel and suffering from PTSD I decided to leave California. I traveled around the US spent some time on the road seeing the sites, it was the first time in 30 years I didn’t have a grow to take care of.
I moved to Arizona Shortly after the fire and settled into a home that had an indoor pool. The wet air made it impossible to breath so one day I drained the Pool. Someone online joked about the old Cheech and Chong Skit and I took the challenge. Many people said it was a stupid idea and that is yet to unfold but I am having a blast at week 3 of budding. Solistek lighting gave me a good deal on the lights and we put 8000 watts of DE HPS above the 20x30 Pool. Smart Pots donated custom 100 gallon air pots and Dragonfly Earth Nutrients donated organic teas to feed the plants.
I started the only seeds I had the day after the fire a unlabeled bag in my head stash I named Phoenix Rising. I also started 10 Vortex seeds that I got from my Breeder Norstar Genetics and off to the races we went. I made 9 cans of Super soil with Dreads help and we put a full can in each 100 gallon smart pot. This is a 100% patient garden and it will be donated entirely to patients for free, I plan to make RSO from a large portion and extract the rest, I am a patient :0
I even had bullet proof shutters installed over the sliding glass windows and we call them Zombie Doors. It’s a trip to go outside at night open them and see a huge garden revealed inside.
The law says the garden here has to be locked at all times so we installed an observation window and a Dab Bar so we can look into the room without going into the flower room. A Caregiver has to be present for entry here. We are super careful and obey the rules here which are great if you get the proper paperwork needed. My Cards hang besides my door on a lanyard.
I vegged the plants under the same lights and surprisingly they did great no stretch nice full leaves and strong branching I did not top the plants until I transplanted them promoting root expansion. I cleaned up the cover crop of buckwheat and comfry and the plants and fed them to the worms I bought from wiggle worm. Dread has been super helpful, with my limited mobility I give a lot of orders and direction and point at things and grunt. I am not easy to work with and Dread does a great job of learning and helping me do things like transplant the 10 gallon pots into the 100 gallon smart pots. I used Extreme Amendments Azo and Myco’s.

We super cropped the plants and I wanted to grow some Mendo Dope style trees and we started down that path. The cover crop was banging until the canopy started shading the soil. Outdoors the sun shines from east and west and indoors the light is only overhead. About that time Groficient systems contacted me about there metal trellis systems and I made a deal to purchase 8 1 for each plant.
My Brother came out to visit what an honor to have a former Seal in my grow room. He wasn’t always a fan of my career choices so a bit of vindication. He was pretty amazed at the scope of the project. We installed the trellis systems and started training the plants through each of the grid holes. As the plants went through the cages we started removing leaves and branches from under the canopy. We started sporadically but the guys using this system to me to strip off everything under the cage. In the end I feel this was to much stress on the plants to produce the type of quality I am used to. We actually blended the leafs up and fed them to the soil and the worms. As the plants grew above the trellis we installed a nylon net 2 feet above the trellis and another at 3feet above. This allowed the buds to have some support as the flowers started to swell with bud meat.

Around this time a fan donated four clones to me, Purple Punch, Timewreck, Blooddrive and Pennywise a 1.1 Phenotype. We placed there in 15 gallon pots using Super Soil and placed then in the isle between the cages.
As the buds started forming we started applying the Fat Flowers tea from Dragonfly Earth Nutrients and Silica and Cal Mag from Blue Planet Nutrients. Smell became a factor about this time so I ordered 2 large carbon scrubbers from Amazon prime, growing weed sure is different these days. You can order almost anything for a growroom off Amazon. Remember the days of taking 2 cars to buy a grow light?
So everything was set and now it was time to sit back and watch the plants grow right? Not even close, I needed an area to start seeds and veg plants we started with cards to grow 24 plants but I am now a legal caregiver for 5 patients and I can have a total of 60 plants.
I had a wall built in the back of the pool room to form a 3 x 16 foot corridor to serve as a veg room. Hortilux lighting donated 2 of there new 600 watt compact fixtures for the area and Timber LED donated a 3 cob light for the clone area. The rear wall of the pool used to have a large canvas on it that the previous owner showed porn on during his wild pool parties. We thought it would be an awesome idea to have a mural painted depicting the exodus from California and restarting here in Arizona. I also added a small cloning area in a closet and my medical garden in Arizona was ready to roil. Week 4 of flowering and the characteristics or each strain started expressing themselves. I smelled Grapes and Cherries and a great deal of lemons. The Vortex plants all leaned heavily towards Sativa and I knew I was in for a long flowering time.
The Phoenix Rising Plants really impressed me by this stage of the game. I smelled the G-13 And Hash Plant that make up this secret strain. Dripping in resin and starting to fade early we stepped up the teas and added some Blue Planet Bloom and Grow and Micro to keep up I wish I had made 18 cans of Super Soil but there just wasn’t time to let all that cook for 6-8 weeks,

By Week 7 the plants had formed fully developed Trichomes and felt oily to the touch. Sativa hybrids have huge heads and less wax and lipids IMO. Think of a giant water balloon filled with resin about to burst. That is a Sativa head. I am going to extract most of this flower. I personally don’t smoke flower and prefer THCa Crystals in Terp Sause a distilled version of BHO that sells for upwards of 120$ in shops and to me it’s the caviar of our craft. I will also fly in MrBond to make Bubble Hash like we did back in California.
Week 8 and we did not see any amber trichomes on the plants and I usually see these strains finish at around 60 days. For some reason weather its lack of humidity. Giant smart pots of these new lamps but I see another week if not more on the Cindy99 dominant plants and the smells just get more tropical everyday. Cherries, Coconuts, Limes, lemons and Peaches. The Purple Punch smells like Grape Kool-Aid and the Pennywise smells like Juicy Fruit gum. I placed a small rug and a few pillows in the corner near one of the carbon filters and I like to sit and meditate there.
Week 9-10 we bought a large deep freeze and started trimming the most mature plants. Sasquatch Rosin Press donated a Mini unit or a Halfsquatch and we started seeing golden rosin flow down sheets of parchment paper. I wet trim which is a story on its own but were freezing 75% of the flowers for live Resin so its really a moot point but I take great care and use lots of glass jars to get my buds perfectly cured. The folks at Extract Craft gave us a Source unit to make RSO and we have already started giving away meds to patients in the area. Trimming is full steam ahead as we process each plant carefully removing the fans then collecting the flowers coated in resin and oils. We acquired GG$ Official Cuts from Lone Wady and I will be running those clones through the pool next run.
I love my Pool and I think everyone that grows should look for a home with an indoor pool most of them just cost money while mine saves me a ton on Cannabis products.
