The original soul sister. I donât care that itâs religious, cuz she was so fucking great!
One of the alltime greats. Couldnât be a better send off for him.
Got to see ZZ back in the pre-Eliminator daysâŚthey were soooooo good then.
I was up most of the night trimming with the police for some background musicâŚ
Iâd forgotten just how good the police are, i ended up playing bass to âThe beds too big without youâ and filled in with some drums
Sting got all the accolades but they had a hell of a drummer and their guitar player was no slouch either.
Howâs about a little smut?!
Hands down the single filthiest version of this first song I have ever heard, and I have had a longstanding interest in smutty songs, old or new. Lucille Bogan recorded the song three times. This is the serious stuff. Far dirtier than Ma Raineyâs original or any other version I have heard.
I have wondered for a long time what the phrase, âshave 'em dry,â means exactly withinin context of the times. Hereâs what Wikipedia has to say. I find it unsatisfying.
No need to play it loud. Itâs the lyricsâŚ
This is a track from my favorite movie of all time, Performance. It stars Mick Jagger as a burned out rock star and James Fox as an on the run enforcer from his deadly serious gay criminal organization. Fox rents a room from Jagger, and the fun begins. (Mick/Turner/Harry performs âMemo from Turnerâ in the movie.) FWIW, I think the best overall portrayal of the psychedelic experience is in this film. Highly recommended by me, but I digress. This track, performed by Randy Newman, with Ry Cooder on guitar, references âŚâshave 'em dry.â The song is all about sex. Every sweaty, pounding moment and line. (Play it LOUD!) Watch the movie and you will know why.
And finally, a little Johnny Otis , aka Snatch & The Poontangs, as you may have never heard him. This ainât no Hand Jive and thatâs no shit! His son the great Shuggie Otis on guitar.
Fun stuff for simple minds like mine!
SuperChunk show here in Brazil, a small farm that must have been in 2001, 2002, lots of marijuana, beer and good music, it was a great show that stayed in my memory, I even smelled the smell of the time.
The Asylum Street Spankers are/were a super fun band out of Texas. The lead singer has a great voice and she isnât afraid to sing bawdy lyrics, including a cover of Shave 'Em Dry
And one about cannabis
One of the nice things about the Spankerâs most excellent cover of âShave 'em Dryâ is itâs in a more modern style where everybody gets their moment to take a lead. Really good stuff.
Wake and Bake is a great song!
Thanks for bringing more smut to the party, @BarefootAndBlazed!
One of my fave Beatle songs(?) Feedback, Indian swara-graam scales, orchestration, general improvisation. Amzing to realize the main body was recorded live with other bits added later. Best heard under the influence of your best weedâŚ
One of my all time anytime fave videoâs that givee a pretty good idea what the end of the â60âsâ looked like. Music is the Grateful Dead at their bestâŚ
