I saw Gowan when I was in high school in Quebec in the mid-80s. Had no idea he took the lead vocal job in Styx until I saw his Wikipedia page today!

Steve Vai is a freak of nature, and I mean that in the best possible way. Epic solo starts at the 3 minute markā€¦

I got to see a show on this Zappa Plays Zappa tour - I wanna say around 2006??!? Dweezil has an incredibly tight band, but he also recruited three alums from his dadā€™s groups: Steve Vai, Ray White, and Terry Bozzio. I initially balked at the $50 ticket price, but ended up getting in free as someoneā€™s +1. After witnessing the show I would have gladly paid the $50. Absolutely worth it.

Into DWD! Wish I was there. One of the other tapers at the fest I attended this past weekend in Chicago was flying home for a day and a half, then flying out to Dickā€™s in Colorado.

One of my favorite Phish jams is this cover of Talking Heads Crosseyed and Painless, featuring Karl Perazzo from Santana on percussion.

Itā€™s followed by a terrific Run Like An Antelope but I canā€™t find a video source, just audio-only:

I got to see FZ live twice. The first time we had 6th row floors dead centre. That was the Zoot Allures tour. Second time was the Sheik Yer Bootie tour so Bozzio was drumming and Frank handled all the guitar on both. What an incredible talent that guy was.

Ever check out Vaiā€™s work on Public Image Limitedsā€™ album ā€œAlbumā€? According to him itā€™s some of his best ever.
