My favorite version, too! I think the Jefferson Airplane version has a lot more emotion to it, 'specially sorrow. It’s so cool that the two bands co-wrote “Wooden Ships” together, so both of them have the “official” version.
Speaking of… have you heard the band Wooden Shjips? They’re definitely influenced by the '60s & early '70s sound. I cannot get enough.
Wooden Shjips - “Black Smoke Rise” (one of their more drone-y tunes, mostly a single chord vamp)
Wooden Shjips - “These Shadows” (prob my fave song by them, one of their most '60s influenced)
