That was one of the first jazz tunes that really grabbed my ear and made me want to explore more jazz. It was 1971, and I was working at a bicycle shop in Bergen County NJ. The FM radio in the store was almost always on 102.7 (WNEW FM), but I had a good friend that was just beginning jazz guitar lessons, so he asked to tune the radio to NYC’s 24 hour jazz station… WRVR 106.7 FM. I remember very clearly when I first heard Compared To What, because I was truly smitten with the music and I ran out to buy the album Swiss Movement after work that day!

I keep coming back to this one for the MONSTER guitar solo by Steve Vai (which starts just before the 3 minute mark)

Had the pleasure of seeing FZ twice…the first time we paid $20, from scalpers, for 6th row floors dead centre!

That’s about the price of a beer at concerts now.
