They were just about banned from A.M. radio back in the day due to being black and songs like “Work With Me Annie” and “Annie Had a Baby.” But in Atlanta we had a black radio station, WAOK where white and black could hear them and emerging stars like Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Bobby Blue Bland, The Isly Brothers and many more.
