You probably know I’m not really a post-big band jazz guy. I think I’ve mentioned that before (and I rarely “like” your morning jazz selections), but I just had to give this at least a partial listening. I listened to it all and found it both pleasant and surprising.

Pleasant because it didn’t go off into obscure diminished 13ths or whatever, there weren’t any bee-bop like flying chromatic runs, and the melody was always at least discernible.

The surprise came in the form of that pedal steel guitar! I don’t believe I ever thought I would hear a cover of “Surfer Girl” featuring a pedal steel, much less one I would like. I found it a really nice surprise!

Thank you for posting it! :slight_smile:

@mota
Bill Frisell is an interesting guitarist, I am glad that you enjoyed his take on Surfer Girl.
Bill is sort of a minimalist jazz guitarist, and he has mastered stylistic fluidity, and it occurred to me that you may very well like his collaboration with Elvis Costello from 1995.

Submitted for your potential enjoyment.
