A lot of people donât know that Roy Harper sang the lead vocal on Pink Floydâs âHave a Cigarâ. Roger Waters was having a bad throat day, and Harper happened to be just down the hall recording a solo album in another studio inside Abbey Road. Itâs one of only two Pink Floyd songs to feature vocals from someone not in the band. The other is the amazing performance on âGreat Gig In The Skyâ.
Lucky enough to be in the tiny studio audience for this.
When I realized the drummer was playing keyboards with his left hand my jaw hit the floorâŚ
these guys, impressive, pure human mouths making all noises, you hear like a mouth harp a harmonica, drums and a diggery do, and the Bass guyâŚwow
You need to check this out! Kyle Schutt from The Sword formed Doom Side of the Moon and they redid the entire Dark Side album. They also put out a 3 song ep of other Floyd songs and every one is amazing. They made it harder without going too hard and itâs super respectful of the originals. Really good shit. Hereâs their version of Have A Cigar from the ep.
Seed aye? Iâll add to this in case anyone doesnât know. Terry Reid was Jimmy Pageâs first choice for vocalist in Led Zep. He asked him but Terry had just signed a contract for his own thing and pointed Jimmy to Robert Plant. The rest is the stuff of legends!
