I knew these guys back in the mid nineties when they played in the New York City area under the name the hidden persuaders. More like New York City funk at that time when they got signed to a major label is when their music started to go downhill. This isnā€™t bad. But I canā€™t find and HP stuffā€¦ have the cds thoughā€¦

I played roadie for these guys a few times in the mid 90sā€¦ they were the ancestors back then. Gotta say, the evolved, stayed true, refused a record deal and earned my respectā€¦ 25 yrs later they still selling out showsā€¦

Sounds like thereā€™s an interesting story behind that one.

I fell out of love with the smashing pumpkins albums after melon collie they never lost it live for me. The original band back in the 90s was amazing but Iā€™ll still take the Corrigan/Chamberlain combo any day of the week. The fact they got Iha for their recent shows is icing on the cake.

@Slick1 They did some kind of a raffle for extras, a friend of mine scored a few spots.

We were hoping they might give us a short set too, but no luck.

@Derpterps

No interesting story unfortunately.

Though Iā€™ve got a couple friends a few years older than me and a few folks Iā€™ve been fortunate to work in restaurants with who were very much a part of the Chicago music scene from that era. Heard lots of fun first hand stories about all kinds of shenanigans involving people from Smashing Pumpkins,
Ministry, Jesus Jones and many others.

No good stories of my own in that regard.

This is another band from that time and place that one of those guys turned me on to

There was a cool music video series called Burn to Shine. They find a house that is slated to be demolished, and have someone curate a hand full of bands from that city playing a song live in there, and talk about the history of the building a little. Spoiler alert, it gets torn down at the end.

Here is a clip of Wilco from the Chicago one. After seeing this video I became mildly obsessed with Nels Clineā€™s guitar playing for a bit

And the full video for those interested

Edit:fixed typo

Ahhā€¦ Finally found a Hidden Persuader track on YTā€¦

Saw these guys so many times at The Wetlands and other clubs in the village in NYC in the 90s. This album is pre-signing. I have 2 cds from them I should burn / send em to YT.

AND Iā€™m on a rollā€¦ Found Ancestors! Syd is about Syd Barretā€¦

And then I stumble across this show (audio isnt the best, it WAS 1994!), thats about the time when I roadied for em. The album was Brigadoon, and still ranks up there as a great album for me. I REALLY wanna find the demo tape I had from them, some truly rare unreleased gems on there I would love to share but I havent seen my tape in 20 years now :frowning:
