Thanks! Recording live concerts has been a hobby of mine for a long time. I’m anxiously awaiting the day we’ll have regular concerts again! You can find hundreds of shows I’ve recorded and uploaded to the archive HERE.. Many different genres of music there…

I only record when the artist gives me permission. Fortunately lots of bluegrass bands are cool with it. Most of what I catch would be considered “New grass” but I’ve seen a few traditional bluegrass bands too. Here are a few:

Del McCoury Band I met another OG member at this show!
Travelin’ McCourys Del’s band, without Del. Jason Carter (from the Carter/Cash family) plays great fiddle
Sam Bush
Blueground Undergrass not my recording, but I was allowed access to the master tapes to upload/share
William Elliott Whitmore solo artist from Iowa, a little folky
Big Smith Legendary hillbilly band from the Ozarks. They retired a while back and this is one of their infrequent reunion shows.
Old Salt Union from St. Louis
Yonder Mountain String Band I first recorded them on their first tour outside of Colorado back in 2000. They’ve had some lineup changes (RIP Jeff Austin) over the years…
Railroad Earth
Leftover Salmon
Rumpke Mountain Boys
Mountain Sprout I LOVE this gaggle of wildly inappropriate hillbillies
Elephant Revival
Arkansauce
Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band
ClusterPluck
Hot Buttered Rum String Band Beatles themed set
Cornmeal I recorded these guys (and gal!) many times
Greensky Bluegrass
Head For The Hills
Split Lip Rayfield Speed grass with a gas tank bass!

Anyone remember this group? Kottonmouth kings stole their whole everything from this group. I got this album in like 1996 on tape, used at a small shop in small town wisconsin.

That’s awesome, definitely some great bands on that list. Been getting a lot heavier into bluegrass the last couple years myself. It’s such conversational music, it’s really a pleasure to listen to and no stopping the fact that it makes me want to shake my bones. I’ve liked him since I first heard him a couple years ago but I’ve been especially hooked on Billy Strings the last few months

If you’re ever in the mood to laugh, check out that show I linked. They have multiple tunes in celebration of cannabis, a good one about cousin lovin’ (“Dang girl, why you gotta be related?”), and some tongue in cheek existential explorations about the world we live in.

I recorded them a dozen times, but that’s the one I go back to. We borrowed a ladder and mounted the microphones from the rafters just in front of the stage so it sounds great. The band is in fine form (intoxicated - I believe they play sober now…) and the crowd was having a blast. This tour was to promote the Wakarusa Music Festival and my pals, Dirtfoot (out of Shreveport, LA - they’ve opened for Primus and Rev. Horton Heat), opened the show. A couple of them sat in with Mountain Sprout for a tune too.

@oleskool830 Do you have a spitoon or multiple

When everybody is running in the big race
And having a good time
Who am I to cast a shadow
Who am I?
I looked Death in the face last night
I saw him in a mirror
And he simply smiled
He told me not to worry
He told me just to take my time
