YO! GTV Raps

Definitely some LEGENDS in that list as well in their own right. Ahh hip hop in its prime. EPIC

The music was good back then. They kicked knowledge and showed skills.
The new dudes are just copycats of each other. Very few of them are original. You can tell they are just being marketed. They spend more time pushing vape pens, shoes and drugs, than trying to give meaning to their music. But we know what it mean. $$$. they $old out.

nice budweiser. I think that was portuguese? I understood a little bit, I grew up around a lot of different languages. In spanish and italian I can get the general meaning of each sentence. In portuguese I only get occasional words.

I really enjoyed these tracks recently. It’s a really fun look at the mission neighborhood where I grew up in San Francisco. Very nostalgic for me.

It kinda straddles the line between hip hop and banda, and it’s dope.

hell yeah everyday is Hyro Day.

a must watch, the scene stands alone. Del for example would have had a hard time in the early 90’s NY scene but in the Bay area he was/is the perfect fit.

thanks for sharing this. That was a great documentary. Nice to see shock-G cracking jokes as he always did. My babysitter gave me a burnt cd of 93 til infinity when I was a little kid. the disc eventually died and I hadn’t heard it in years. Thanks man.

Del’s solo albums were awesome, I loved 3030 when it came out. I loved the stories and the surreal imagery. it really motivated me to seek out these artists and music and learn more about what was going on in the bay.

When I was really young I listened to local rap on KMEL all the time, but I never learned about the artists. I heard great rap and hip hop all the time on the radio, in public, or on people playing it on their stereos so I had kind of taken it for granted at first.

I guess now that I think about it, everyone takes art for granted when you’re that young. you have to develop the appreciation by understanding the context.

The first hip hop albums I bought when I was a kid were DJ Qbert’s Wavetwisters and Deltron 3030. I think I got my first DJ Qbert album when I was 6 years old haha.

Glad you got to watch it bro, I thought it was a great doco. And after watching it I was like damn the energy and scene in the Bay area is like no other. Even with punk bands like my favourite Operation Ivy they are all a product of their environment and wouldn’t be the same without the forward free thinking people of that area.

Deltron 3030 is a classic for sure and very original and ground breaking.

Quannum Projects are another group of highly talented artists. Really sad about Gift of Gabs passing recently, Blackalicous was a big influence on me and their first Nia and Blazing Arrow albums are in my vinyl collection and highly treasured.

Love me some Benny , prime example of how new heads can still come through and absolutely dominate. Conway is a real life hustling BEAST, alll real . And bennies stories are all true as he’s as real G as they come. Like Pusha the cocaine flow hip hop has always had an insane following among those of us that were “ in the industry” and some that wished they were, and those that just respected the REAL HIP HOP. Tbh Benny and a few others have revitalized my faith in REAL RAW HIP HOP staying alive for years to come.

Any chance any mixers or engineers in the group? I got all kinds of demo tracks that could use cleaning. Also who has mics? I got a u.s.b mic from Amazon for 40 bucks. Just saying, I will throw a verse on any song. Instrumentals can be passed through email. Audacity is a track recorder free for down load. Just saying.

Yes I love my UK hip hop. I like the artists in the group’s solo stuff better than the four owls releases, although they are good too. Verb T and Leaf Dog are the standouts for me. Are you based in the UK? Jehst is the Don of that scene imo.

This one produced by my mate Beat Butcha

Uk hip hop is so underrated, or at least the undergroud(ish) scene is anyway.

I love Foreign Beggars early albums and Mic Righteous is pretty dope too. Arguably the best FITB (akala and Lowkey get honourable mentions too)

Anyone ever listen to Skruffz or Rick Fury? Both North East England artists.
