Artificial photosynthesis?

Has anyone heard or read about artificial photosynthesis where researchers are growing food organisms without sunlight? Can you imagine growing cannabis in the dark

Here is the article if anyone is interested:

Sounds energy intensive if you don’t t have a solar array. But its a step in the right direction. Good read.

Is it still considered food? Maybe grow plants is more conservative.

Great article and super interesting.

At first I just thought it was about them growing like fake meat type organisms but then later on they talk about all the plants they have gotten to produce.

However, it is disheartening that methods are being studied and brought about in response to what we face in the future, instead of the methods being developed in a more proactive sense. When the scientists at some of the best think tanks and universities in the world are all of a similar mindset, it really makes the doom and gloom feel more…real?

Doom and gloom is right, like the vats of yeast synthesizing thc.

While it’s nifty, the implications of the possibility of a dark planet for profit are enormous.

That thought didnt cross my mind, it is absolutely saddening when you think about it in that aspect.

So if it takes the sun to get the energy needed to grow plants in the dark, wouldn’t it just be easier to just use the sun to grow the plants?

Did you read the article or just go off the headline?

They don’t need the sun, they said they can combine solar power to assist, but they still grew without any sun light.

Honestly no I didn’t read it, just made my comment based on the other comment about needing solar power.
