I definitely feel the pressure on this one lol. The germination phase on these have been a little stressful to say the least.
These beans are stubborn! So far there are 2 that just have their heads above the soil and haven’t dropped the shells yet. A third has just been planted, there’s 3 more beans that just cracked and will probably be planted tonight or tomorrow. 2 others I can just see the seed shell starting to open and the last 4 have swollen a bit and got darker but still no signs of opening as of yet.

Ugh. I hate when they refuse to drop their helmets. 2 of my solocup autos did this so I sprayed em more often than the others and then pulled out the tweezers when they looked safe enough to pluck.

Sending them a “hadouken” of LOVE!

I “know a guy” , who puts them in the dirt tails up so they will shed the seed coat on the way to the surface.

Hahaha no pressure bud! You got this!!!

I also “know a guy” who sprayed the seedling helmet with a light mist of water and proceeded to very carefully remove said shell with a pair of tweezers. Plant grew out fine… so “this guy” said.

I have done serious damage to cotyledons ripping the helmets off but all it did was stunt them a bit.

Not ideal but not the end of the world.

I really try not to intervene with seedlings unless I absolutely need to lol they are fragile and my fingers are clumsy.
I’m sure everything will take off it just seams to be moving slowly. I’m not sure how old these are either so that could be why. Or it could just be me wanting my first co op to go without a hitch lol

You got this! Just give them a few more days before you start the :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: stem rubbing! Lol

When I removed them, they were almost able to fall off with a solid forced breath of air. I’ve KILLED seedlings removing them badly; lesson learned!

Yeah they can break easily and I learned the hard way as well. I will use water to spray a helmet a few times a day and sometimes it’s enough to loosen them up.

I agree with @GMan spray bottle and I use a toothpick so as to try and dislodge it

I have found that doming also helps, when they are having a hard time, shedding their shell :v:t4:

I have used the same technique, along with the domes and sometimes even 2 needles, to coax it off but, never ripping it off. Usually, if you can get it a little loose and get some water in the actual, seed shell, the extra weight sometimes, will coax, it off :v:t4:

Belt sander. Or sawzall

It fell off of one last night. The other is still hanging on but I’m misting with water. Still only the 2 above soil. I see a third shell at the surface.
There’s still 4 seeds that haven’t even cracked open yet.

That may have been what I was using when I learned the hard way…

I think it was the sawzall.
