Electricity bill too high?

My bill looks very much like that but has a few more different charges on it. Total ripoff and it’s all US and an an Australian company that own the multiple companies that send us our bills. The gov’t caps the amount per kwh so they tack on a bunch of BS charges and the gov’t lets them get away with it. There’s not a Canadian company here in Alberta except maybe ATCO but they’re likely owned by a foreign company too.

No break for us soon to be pensioners either. :frowning:

Wow I wonder what it cost for you to produce a ounce of weed ? I have grid tied solar no electric bill in years 24 panels ground mount . But I’m growing outdoor two wells pumped storage so running 4 pumps at times . I use grow tents and LEDs to start my plants . I was adding some of this up in my stoned brain maybe I should just go to the pot shop and buy there crap . So lately my array is making 40,000 Wh per day the Last 7 days 228.55 kwh and 1.08 mwh for the month .

I hear ya Gramps!.. Bud is so cheap, at least in my area… Seen it going for as low as 65 bucks a zip on several occasions… My bills are up there… Is it worth it?? Aint quite sure anymore. Seems like most people run to the dispensaries than go to the black market these days. But, then you have the “loyal” clientelle, and thats what makes my HPS bulbs continue to glow. May try an led setup next year… I dunno. Im thinking a huge batch of outdoor, enough to take care of things throughout the year… Sounds logical, and way cheaper. Iam paying 400-500 a month, Thats 6000 a year!! But, we do have a rather large hot tub, and LOTS of electronics… Hmmmmmm Time to make a change…Led and outdoor grows seems like the best Idea…Or solar. But, the solar’s initial cost would probably give me “sticker shock”. Sure like HPS, but that led lighting is looking better all the time.

I see power companies around here getting more into solar every day as well, there are large fields of them popping up everywhere my guess is to help with the every increasing demand on the system with the population increase as well of course big money is involved so who’s going to help absorb these cost? Yup the consumer! Another one of those bullshit fees we all seeing ending up on a persons bill! :rage:

The one thing I don’t worry about. The whole hood shares one grid. The only thing metered around here is the gas. We’d go all electricity lol but the city needs some money. We have a monthly single maintenance fee. Water, electricity, and bulk trash pick up.

If it wasn’t for the constant murder and thievery you’d have it made here. Still you can only run so much before you start throwing breakers. Being overly paranoid isn’t a problem. When you start blind peeking it is.

If your greedy you already know. The police don’t have to park out front of your house and yea they spend extended periods of time watching you. It’s called building a case. If you were egotistical enough to post a massive illegal grow you have to ask yourself. What’s the point. Be safe than sorry.

Best bang for your buck is a greenhouse. Then what leds. The end has to justify means. I bet if you built a nice sunroom it would act the same way. Charged glass that tints would be badass. Coulda swore they use that high end glass in cars and office buildings. Be safe yall.

Wish I had some neighbors who grew. Anyone have a neighbor buddy who both grow? Just wondering. It must be awesome to have rec growing.

Guys do you have smart meters? It seems in my area the energy provider is introducing meters which are digital and can get hooked with a communication module. When you are using up a lot of power then the energy provider forces you to use that meter with communication module. The module sends every couple of minutes your use of energy to the provider.

This results in the energy provider to see “live” information about your energy spikes and amounts.

I did read that in Swiss these meters are already introduced. And I already read about a case where there was seen on his energy profile that this person was using high energy consumers in the night and then the house was searched. (Although person had already conviction because of drugs and maybe there was other evidence which led to looking into the energy use profile of that person).

Also these kind of meters allow precise documentation of your energy use. Which can serve as information since when and in what amount you did grow. Which will be relevant for what sentencing you will get in case you are busted.

Who has these meters already?

Is there anything to obfuscate an energy use profile? (I read about using electrical heating with random set timers for a couple of minutes every hours. But I am not sure if that would really obfuscate the profile)

Do you think it makes a relevant issue if your usage gets reported frequently instead of yearly? I guess a high yearly use is enough for a warrant. Ok the energy provider would have more information on you. But would the provider act motivated just by himself or only when police is already acting and then requesting information of the provider? In the case that police is contacting energy provider it wouldnt make much difference if the energy provider has more exact information on your use, probably the whole per year consumption is enough?

What do you think?

I am just about to have one installed, not worried as my grow is legal.

What is the reason you get that thing installed?

because the power company wants them

Electromagnetic locks can have discrete kill-switches…500kg with a switch under a hidden baseboard or stair will do the job.
Mine is a deadbolt behind a door, with a flat 1 inch OSB, with a twisty-turny knob…not kid accessible unless they’re seriously dedicated…being an axe if you want access…or just ask me

Or you could just tap into your hydro prior to your box…all it takes is a bag of redi-crete and newdlenose p’s

The Wire, The Corner…It ends how all “tough guys” in Baltimore end. Shot in the face in a Bodega buying blunts on the Ave…Hahaha

I dont want it, the power company wants it, they put a new one in a year ago when my power usage doubled, probably thought it was faulty and now they want this one in, I asked why and they said it helps them monitor usage so they can be more efficient with how much they need to produce. Everyone is getting them here its not just me.

Smart meters are all over Oklahoma. My grow is legal so I don’t mind, and I can log in and see my useage. I know what I should be drawing, so if I see a drop or spike I know something is wrong, like last month when I blew a 1000w ballast. These smart meters will become standard everywhere.

No smart meters here in Alberta. Mine still has the wheel that spins and just tallies up how much power I use every month.

4 - $500 bill every month tho. About 25¢/Kwh here.

Wife has 30 chickens or so out in the coop with 4 or 5 heated water things and infrared heat lamps going but bitches about my little grow room lol.

Legal or not who wants the power company knowing your business.

I’ll go down hard fighting those bastards!

I don’t fight them and they haven’t bothered me either but damn it costs to live here. My place is wired light industrial and I often wonder if I’m not being overcharged because of that. Ever since King Ralph switched the power grid to private companies back around the time we got here in '01 the price has quadrupled. Many people had to sell their homes as the extra power costs were the straw that broke their backs.

All these companies are US owned and tho my power only costs 9.5¢/kwh there are other charges like delivery that are often twice the actual cost of the power. In almost 20 years I’ve never seen a truck full of electricity show up in my yard to fill me up. lol

I never see anyone show up to read my meter either but have recorded the numbers and checked them against my bills so know it’s legit. They just drive by once in a while and remotely get the actual reading. The local gas company changed out my meter almost 10 years ago and get the readings by flying a plane over the area every month. No wires to the gas meter so it’s technology I’m not party to. At least the guy isn’t sticking his nose right under my grow room every month like he used to.

A guy has got to do something…the cost of everything is crippling everyone. That’s bullshit whats happening…there must be a way to get off the grid. Solar wood used oil and steam…i don’t know. Like is it worth it over the year? 5 years?

We’ve been here almost 17 years. Never thought it would be this long so never made any changes. Gas is cheap so keeping us warm is not a lot. We actually have lots of free wood rotting in the woods around my house but that’s a lot of work and my chain saw sux.

I’d like to just sell the farm, give the wife half and head out on my own. Campbell River on Vancouver Island is where I’d go. Where I should have moved us back in '01 when we came here but that’s a real long story. Northern Alberta was great back then and I made a lot of money driving truck in the oil patch. Health went south 6 or 7 years ago and so did the paycheques. I’m on old age pension now and could happily live out my days fishing while living in a little shack on the beach on the Island. Still love the wife tho and when she was diagnosed with liver tumours a year ago swore to stand by her to the end and still would.

New scans last week show the tumours are 40% smaller and they optomistally say that it looks like a benign condition so no imminent death on the horizon. Is it the RSO I’ve been feeding her the last 8 months or a higher power? I’m thinking RSO and will be making everything I have into it soon for her use. Except for the pound of hi-CBD pot I need for my arthritis. Should get close to a half pound of RSO if I liquidate it all. Maybe more but I haven’t taken a full inventory for a while and just added another QP of Hindu Kush to the pile. I need to smoke more or grow less!

I’ve grown too comfortable sitting in my mancave and my physical health is suffering. No weight gain but a horrible lack of stamina and much muscle loss. I still got the old man power but if can’t knock you out right off the bat I’ll fade out fast and be done for. lol

I got a huge south-facing shp roof that would be perfect for solar panels but I missed that bus too. A couple years ago the NDP had a great rebate program to get into solar but I wasn’t on OAS then and now that the Cons are in power that’s gone so they could give their oil bum buddies 5 billion to support a dying economic ideal.

Life sux then you die.
