Pretty sure I posted the answer, guys. I got it off the same website as the others. not 100% sure but pretty sure.

the man drawing water is a painting on the side of a well

the answer is to ignore the weird ghost and just get the water. pretty zen.

Yeah I see it in the same spot as the Mt fuji answer. BUT I DONT GET IT lol

It is a dream

Did you read the general explanation the koans? The idea of the koans is to just ignore the obstacles or weird questions and focus on the do-able parts, like drawing water, taking three steps, and fetching a rock from the bottom of the ocean.

Ah. I get it but still don’t understand. If that makes sense. The Why is confusing me in the riddle

of course. yet “what” is not “why”.

Think of it this way. They’re trick questions intended to confuse people. The winner of the question is the person who remains calm and gives an answer and manages to justify it.

In a way, these answers aren’t the “ultimate” answers. They’re just examples.

the koan, which is a focus for thought, which differs from this particular question is “In a well that has not
been dug, water is rippling from the source that does not flow. Someone without
form or shadow is drawing water from the well.”.
