Saturday morn update, Looking alright today ended up giving them a heavy flush with higher pH feed water last night.

So ive been running into buildup and low pH issues with the promix and really its just a process of learning peat based mixes vs say straight coco, what i think is happening or at least initially was not that i was over feeding just that with the pH driving so low being in the 4-5 range for runoff that is was causing lockout and then build up was happening because of that

As for why the pH is driving so low after a little bit of reading my best guess is due to the acidic nature of peat and the addition of lime to counter that quality that if ive been leaving the mix to go on the drier side it don’t have enough water to allow that dolomite lime to work, and second that due to my small container volume and reusing some of the couple week old used stuff that and buffering agents such as quick and dolomite lime are probably getting taxed at an accelerated rate comparably to large containers, and high runoff rates probably haven’t been helping with that either.

So to counter that my next change will be just to try and feed at a higher pH of 6.5-6.8 vs the 6.2 i was to try and offset the acidic nature of peat and try and find that happy feed level pH wise that works.

Though this is all new to a certain extent with the bit more knowledge and experience i have now though what has been some of your solutions if you have run into similar issues with peak based mixes such as promix?

As for the plants, Left side no sign of pollen sacs yet on the sprayed plant though it needs to grow to produce some and the flushing and issues haven’t helped with that its smaller sisters are looking better this morning hopefully they recover and do well then i can make some selections once they flower.

Right side whole wack of seedlings going, PRxCD on the left and 1/4 auto CD9’s on the right, trying to see if i can make them flourish up to the point they make a nice removable plug for transplanting though figuring out all this peat mix stuff and what they want watering wise to enable that. Going to make to make some selections and up pot eventually for the PRxCD’s, the C9D’s i have no plan though and they may get left in those cells a lot longer they they should say to the point to where they show being auto or not, we will see as i don’t have any pots for them otherwise.

The flush and higher “6.8” pH feed seems to be working for the promix, going to have to observe and adjust if needed.

Right side, the oldest plant is getting the stretched out willow type bud structure which is not what im looking for this round, can make for nice plants may have to be for another time though. Others are picking up.

Left side seedlings all doing decent, they haven’t been praying or anything but also not drooping so middle ground is also good for me, will probably need to get some of the left PRxCD’s into pots this week, though gonna be some hard selections.

Right side alot are showing the early purple/pinkish hues in the centre growth and long leaves which just what the crossing of C99 and Dark Devil that i had originally used brought out, just will have to run with it see what comes out, hopefully not paranoid bud like the last plant though something to be said about my mind set at the time.

:grinning: Looks like you have lots to choose from, what will your selection process look like at this stage in the game? Structure & vigor?

I have been meaning to buy a good soil PH meter for a long time now to get an idea of where my PH really is as I don’t have runoff to measure in my system, have a cheapo Soil Ph Meter but I have no idea how accurate it is. I test with this as well as Litmos strips when I mix my soil but that’s about it. That being said I have to pay very little attention to PH since I am not really feeding the plants, the nutes that I have been barely using do not get PH’d, and without liquid feed, the plants seem to deal with any swings or challenges with PH.

Glad you were able to see some positive change in the HP with higher PH feeding to offset, plants look great!

Honestly i have no current plan for selections for these PRxCD’s just as i haven’t run them enough to know what to look for so yeah basic things like structure and vigor at the start and later and just pulling the runts these though seem to have a couple different expressions those being light green, darker more crinkly leaves, runts, and some inbetweens. I’ve been considering this morning that i may forgo the older dark sparks or at least limit them down to free up more spots and pots for selection purposes doing a group of the light greens and darker more crinkly leave ones.

Also the pH swings and issues is just the nature of small container growing as swings happen a heck of alot quicker when things are out of balance and you can’t run water only mixes just due to the soil volumes ability to hold whats needed for the grow, really this is just learning whats needed for promix as what apply’s to coco doesn’t necessarily follow through in other medias.

Up and downs just gotta move forward as best as one can.

As always, that makes a lot of sense how this would only be further exasperated in smaller volumes of substrate as well as your outlook for selections/expression hunting.

Thanks for sharing a bit more about your process, it is simply fascinating.

Grabbed this shot for @ReikoX earlier today so he could see the differences in the PRxCD’s a bit easier as we were discussing them figured might as well throw it in here tonight

Also grabbed this shot tonight they aren’t coming out easy yet but at about 7ish days im starting to get the plugs i was hoping for still plenty of room for roots though so definitely figure can probably get at least 10+ days out of these starting trays.

Confess, you pulled out all the seedlings and the aligned them so they all look nice and neat for us OGers haha :raised_hand::relieved:

Mr Sparkle is self confessed. He spins them around twists the stalks to line them all up.

^^^ was sitting there and figured why not, though not like it matters as they are now overlapping each other heavily and will probably get transplanted in the next day or two just did it for fun and partial quirkiness

I like a nice looking grow room and thats just another thing that can be done to keep it looking good. :+1:

I concur with your conclusion.

2 Days later

Removed the flowering plant as it wasn’t what i was looking for leaving these 6, two on the right im just waiting to dry a bit before i compost them, started spraying the others with some fresh CS we will see what they do, whether they produce pollen or i use it will have to see how the plants look once they get a bit older. The lower leave damage is from the previous pH issues so nto to concerned with those and those fans get plucked later on anyways.

@TerpSneeze may have to take you up on your offer in the future if still available as even though CS has worked for me and is cheap and easy i also haven’t actually tried STS so who knows my issue with it was more longevity in how long it can sit around say un-refridgerated once mixed up whether in concentrated format or working though considering i like to make a fresh batch of CS every time i use it is it really that different.

Right side the PRxCD’s are taking off gonna start transplanting some today, liking these cut down germination trays now that im getting more of a handle on them and whats needed with the media change up.

The C9D’s forgot how long and narrow the leaves are on these and how almost all have purple hue new center growth which obviously is coming from the Dark Devil side just overpowers the yellow nature of the C99 that was used, also seeing some minor leave structure irregularities though reminded me that it was present in the previous generations, will have to wait and see which ones auto flower though i don’t think they will be able to do that in the germination cells though i guess we will find out as i won’t have pots for them, tried picking up a few more square ones they just didn’t have any in stock hopefully they get some as i wouldn’t mind 4 more for buffer room.

Oh and the bag in the back is the lady’s “sunflower microgreens” she was given by some coworkers of course it ended up in one of the cabs as she asked not gonna say no when there’s room lol.

Weighed the bud from that handwatered plant yesterday, its quite a bit more dry than i would like so would of been a couple more grams than this though for hand watering once a day and under 45ish watts initially then 100w for the last 3 weeks no complaints can be had.

Seed Saturday update first though

Left side removed one Dark Spark as it was turning into a coloured leaf bleeder which is just where the colour spreads past the calyxes and out into the leaves just not what im looking for, remain two are being sprayed once a day around lights out or in the morning if i miss it. Also moved over some of the PRxCD’s which are enjoying the bigger root space.

Right side more transplanted PRxCD liking it and some of the C99xDarkDevil “C9D” 1/4 autos looking healthy, im thinking ill multiplant them in some of my bigger pots and throw them up into the third chamber till i can cull the weaklings and non-autos.

And to finish it out for “Seed Saturday@ReikoX and i were talking the other day and he came up with a good idea to do potentially a reoccurring seed giveaway on a specific day in his thread, asked if i could take part as well and borrow his idea to join in on the fun.

So for myself i’ll offering up 4 packs of these C9D 1/4autos to anyone in North America “for ease” which are the seedlings above just leave a comment by 12:00pm PST which is the next Hour and half and i’ll randomly select probably by dice between those who respond. So if you want some to play with before i make these full auto leave a comment.
