Hello OG, and good day. So I’m hoping I could get some help. I thought it would probably be cheaper to just amend the soil, vs buying completely new soil. So I started with 4 bags fox farm ocean forest, 2 bags sohum living soil, and a block of Coco. The Coco was a 10 lb block by the way… I wasn’t planning on doing a soil test. I was hoping I could just add mushroom compost and mycorrhizae and I don’t know what else really to add. I’m also adding some promix. Are there any suggestions? Thanks OG!
Sounds like you got a good batch of soil going the only thing that I could recommend adding is blood meal and bonemeal.
Among many great amendments, my 3 goto’s are gypsum, kelp, DE. And if you have access to worm castings, by all means add some. So many ways to skin the cat, but it looks like you have a good base,so just go from there, and good luck.
One tip I got from someone: Less is more. More can always be added, but once you put it in, it aint coming out.
Take a big bag and go for a walk in nature.
Gather tree leaves, grass clippings, thistle, dandelion (10% calcium), nettle, basically anything that isn’t poisonous and has deep roots that reach the minerals deep down in the soil.
Cheap, easy, and you’ll have gotten some fresh air.
Also kitchenscraps (especially banana peels contain a good amount of phosphor and potassium).
Mix it all up, add some worms and off you go.
Then keep topdressing with the same.
Sow covercrops as well.
Vetch and clover for example.
Think like a forest.
The absolute, ultimate soil for cannabis is made from dead cannabis plants, so you can do that too. Harvest only half and let the rest decompose. Next generation then has all it needs, readily available.
All good advice above
This is “There is more than one way to skin a cat” scenarios…

Some amendments need to be ‘cooked’ in. i.e. mix the soil up 2~3 weeks before you need it.
