I transplanted from soil. Removed the soil and placed the roots near the hydroton. And then filled with my perlite mix the roots will fill the container especially the very bottom and around the air stone. At the end I can’t wait to show you a picture it will look like DWC root porn. The vermiculite does wick a bit of water. But the goal is to have the plant roots pull most the water from the bottom them selves. They will hit the bottom within a week or so and then the plant will start to grow much much faster.
Hey @dequilo, @Chronickyle waters down the pipe. So I’m guessing you water yours from the top. I’m guessing he dose too. Just to get her started. I’m sure I’m over thinking this.
I water with a can around the top
he waters down the pipe
Hempys are so painless they are hard as you want to
make it
I use jacks 20-20-20 at 1/2 strength for veg 10-30-20 flower
gets no easier

Its coming to me now! I’m definitely going to tag along. I can see how you prefer this over other setups. I have to do a resivor change out today. You probably save alot more nutes than I do too.
For the first week I pour the water into the medium. After that only the pipe. Till. I flush then I pour straight water down the medium.
your perlite and vermiculite buffer the media
like soil-less does
the vermiculite is glass and cuts the roots to give you the root mass
that just sucks in the nutes
all the best and grow well

Wow. Thanks guys for the breakdown. People shouldn’t be asking that many more questions lol. IMO The rest is pretty straightforward if your already doing hydroponics. My next run I’m going to try to do this and DWC. Same strain of corse to see which one works best for me. I may change up. Im going to follow this closely.
Awesome just wanted to see the finished product first. what’s wrong with me
-killer canopy for sure man I like. Very simple and super effective Thank you for sharing
Plants have been adjusting to the new environment, found some aphids sadly. I thought I beat them a couple weeks ago but I kept spraying my mix. Found a. Couple more yesterday so I defoliated and sprayed my mix again hopefully I don’t see them again. But I will keep spraying for now, neem, detergent and apple cider vinigar. Last night I added mint to the mix and milk. Seems weird but plants look better today, I think the liked the milk. Or. Maybe the roots found the water in the bottom. Anyways. Here’s some pics. Updates soon.
Pulling up a chair, pipe in hand, and along for the ride!
Raised the 2 Blue Velvet (Blueberry Thai) up 3 inches today higher than the Strawberry Bannana Kush and Grape Ape. The Blue Velvets just don’t like to stretch out compared to the other two so I had planted them on an angle to help them adapt to the scrog screen and because blue velvet also has very rigid stems. But I’m determined to make it scrog!
They look a lot better at this height and makes the screen look much better.
I purchased a R0 system and have been setting it up today. Currently my well water is testing at over 8 ph and 600 plus ppm. So I have been reducing the ph and still using the water but I expect vast improvements in the plants once I start to use the R0 water with them tommorow night.
Enjoy the pic,
Chronickyle, happy growing
Super excited to see your progress!
@Chronickyle. Looking forward to seeing the results with the RO. My well water is normally 7.5 and close to 400 ppm. Thinking about installing a simple RO system in the basement just for the plants.
Okay, been a busy week. RO is working great ppm is now 110 with the stage that adds minerals back in and ph is 6.4ish. So much much better than before. My water is also crystal clear now. Today at 12:00 noon marks the start of day 2 of flower. Current nutes is 620 ppm increasing next watering by about 100 ppm. Going to plug in my last hlg 132 in a couple days as well to bring me up to 31.5 watts per square foot. Have to figure out the height I should keep my lights from my canopy during flower it’s been too long since I did this last. I feel like it’s 18" but I’m not sure. II’ve still been spraying every 3 days for aphids. I don’t see them but I’m worried they will come back.
Wow I’ve never done a journal before and with me watching every day I hardly notice changes it feels like it just was always like that in my head. But looking back at my photos from 8 days ago till now wow. I’d say the RO is for sure helping.
Well it’s been a busy week so I’m a bit late posting these photos as they were taken on Saturday (start of week 2 of flower).
I decided to pull out a bottle of carboload from AN to just use it up since I already had it. Wow big mistake, made my res super unstable. Ph tanked in my standing res in just a few days. So I dumped it and started again. Started checking the run off of my pots and in there my ph was climbing extremely fast. So Im not using the carboload anymore and like magic. Both my pots and standing res have stabilized again. Screw you AN lol, well at least your carboload.
Currently I am using a homemade version of budcandy, Dyna foliage pro, dyna bloom, extreme mycos, and dyna pro tekt.
For lights I am running 5 hlg 132s for a total of 375 watts in a 3 * 4 tent.
My current ppm is 610 and ph is 5.8.
My pot drain tests at 5.9 ph and 400 ppm
My pots are 5 gallon pails.
Man I lost you there for a lil bit. Kept trying to search passive hydroponics and got nothing. Lol. Looking good I would imagine in another week you should begin to see flowers. Any pistol popping going on at all?
Yes I believe the pistils have started showing them selfs as of yesterday, I didn’t take a close enough look to see for sure but the structure is there. I will take some closeups later on this evening and post them on here. Going to try to do updates more frequently now since this is when the grow starts to get more interesting, well for me anyways. Hoping to build a new light soon and get more stuff happening, vs just this and my moms.
Hey are the plants particular about the type of vermiculite and perlite that you have noticed?
