As I understand it, Nobel’s brother died and because the news at that time traveled much more slowly, many newspapers got the story wrong and reported that he died rather than his brother.
He saw stories, I would guess obituaries, where he was essentially referred to as a death-merchant and portrayed without any redeeming qualities.
He was reportedly so startled by this portrayal, this was a catalyst for his creation of the Nobel-foundation that celebrates contributions by individuals for the benefit of humanity.
If you think about it the experience must have been a gift to him. Most ppl don’t get the opportunity to make late life corrections like that
