OG Website Feature Wish List

Not that I know about…

If you mouse over the icon, then it will show you the username, but I don’t think that is what you are looking for.

Would be nice to be able to just delete posts if possible without the words along the lines of this post has been deleted and will be removed in 24 hours unless flagged.

It actually helps a lot us moderators, because we see the “trace” of deleted post (and it doesn’t just disappear). I don’t see any way how it could interfere… It is a public board after all so we should think twice before posting

There could be potential case of misuse when anyone could post something offending and then delete it before staff notices…

Not every deleted post is someone flaming/being offensive. A lot of it is mixed in with discussion about other things. I can see how it might be useful for moderation but as a user I find it a bit pointless for there to be empty posts all over the forum. I think if you posted something and change your mind it should be able to be deleted right away so 40+ people don’t have to read that it will be deleted in 24 hr wondering what the person might have added to the convo or said.

I’m sure most people think more than twice before posting things but can easily change their mind hours or days later. It bumps the thread to the top of the list only for you to go to a deleted message.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned;

I know the full version of the site instead of the mobile version has the user icon on the list of private messages. Is it possible to have usernames listed on the PM inbox? Having their username next to, or in place of that icon would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Usernames are not listed there, when I’m looking for PM from particular user I go through advanced search:

Well at least we know that you changed your mind and deleted the post. Usually some people have already reacted to your message by that time, so we at least know that the topic is missing few bits of discussion.

Anyway deleting the post should be needed only if the content is against the rules, not because you have changed your mind. Having people react to your post and then removing it is against netiquette. Again this is public discussion board. In history removing the post wasn’t even technically possible (remember newsgroups?).

Any chance we could get a “likes remaining” counter or something like that?
I just waited 45 minutes for more likes, and only got 2.

Maybe if I could see what was going on it would be more useful and easier to ration likes appropriately?

I’ve also noticed if you cancel a like, you can’t use that like to heart another post.

Has anyone asked about being able to delete messages

Lol. Dude, I’ve had that happen so many times, too. :joy: It’s a rolling ball, so each “like” has its own separate timer.

is anyone else noticing a sudden wave of new users posting single words or short nonsensical phrases with no punctuation?

What’s the deal? it kinda fucks with the site. I always enjoyed the fact that we don’t have to scroll through spam and endless shitposting on overgrow.

do we have a robot problem?
seriously some of this this sounds like bad voice dictation software or the kind of nonsense that an ai will spit out, is there even a human involved?

Does overgrow need a Turing Test feature?

Is there any way we can encourage some level of responsible self censorship to keep people from posting crap, gibberish, or one word replies?

I wish the search feature could be improved. If I search for “Flow” I get results for “flower.”

I often have problems like this. Is there a way to search for the full word instead of just the letters, wherever they appear on the site in that combination?

On a search engine it would give me results for the exact search term “flow” if you put the term in quotes, but that doesn’t work here.

I would like to see the Overgrow.com Awards return. Looked like a fun thing and the last one was for 2019

It is actually here: 2020 Overgrow.com Awards  (now renamed to fit better)

Oh man, I missed that one. Thanks @LemonadeJoe , I really loved the 2019 one, it gave me links to great stuff I had not seen due to it being older. Now I can go check out the 2020, much appreciated. Off to do some reading

I would like to see overgrow members numbers at the top of the screen. I think the old overgrow had it and if I’m not mistaken it was over 200,000 before it got taken down.

You can see some stats in the Badges page…

As well, I could be wrong - but I recall it being between 300k & 350k. The last number I seem to recall is 326,000, but that was around 6 months before the server seizures.

Based on the badges, as pointed out by LJ, we’ve had 5048 “Basic” members. There have obviously been more “New” members, but only LJ or other Admin have access to that data at this point.

Considering that a bunch of people lurk here to research, gawk and dream without opening an account, I would love to see a stat page showing the total number of unique daily visitors. That would be a great way for us to see how much steam the site is gaining…or losing…but probably gaining. Maybe put it in the Private Lounge if that info isn’t something LJ wants the world to easily see.

I am just wondering if it might be possible to add a " night mode" to the site?
By night mode I mean the ability to darken the background .
