sorry…chars
my math on that is light+nutrient=death.
Lol…yeah, whenever I add the gaia green I get some new stuff growing in the soil. Sometimes it looks like little eggs (like above), sometimes get straight up mycelium patches on the top and sides. I have another plant in a slurpee cup and you can see the roots grow past the mycelium patch, stop, turn upwards and grow back into the patch again.
I dont cover it up at all, but my plants are so densely packed, it blocks light from hitting the bottom and sides.
.
If light does hit the roots, it’s not for long…algae will grow in fast and act as a natural light blocker.
.
Edit. Some pics of those small balls that form. Now I’m wondering what they are…
.
.
I wouldn’t let light contact the nutrient solution, there’s a warning on the side of the bottle about that. Including the bottles are black. Many hydro growers, no doubt larry included, will block all light leaks in the hydro system. Just ask puffer what happens when the light and nutrient mingle. Plants will die, some sooner than others, when the pathogens start to grow. OK here are my case studies.
Producing clones with nutrient, if the neoprene touches the solution and the nutrient wicks up into the light, the clone dies.
Seedlings in hydro if the solution is on the stem in the light, the stem thins and thins until the plant falls over dead.
The algae will jank your plant. It’s not good.
Now for the disclaimer: I’m not the boss of you, do what you want.
hah hah I can’t believe I said jank, it’s a real word.
sorry…chars
yah well it’s not something that happens right away or presents like you’d think. On the bottle it says light exposure will lead to micro nutrient deficiency transition metal iron. I’m not guaranteeing which light level will lead to the jank, but it’s probably best to avoid as much exposure as possible. heh heh yah I was looking for some info from that ancient study on root growth it was actually pretty good for something from the 40s. I suspect tappys balls are some micro organism growing, I would definitely examine it under the microscope.
Here was my pops experiment in light exposure. He got a piece of rock wool and floated it out on a sea of bubbling nutrient solution. It was impregnated with seeds of lettuce and crap. Pretty soon the pathogens grew on the surface and wiped out his crops. They were growing leaves and shit next they were a pile of slime. It wasn’t just algae either it was like some kind of water mold or some wack shit. Grey and Black growths on the surface. White growths! yum! Wish I had it again so I could toss it under the scope heh heh.
The upper roots are fuzzy I was considering harvesting some for study. Be right back.
The strange part is the root hairs are more uniform closer to the tip of the root. They get scraggly like that a ways back.
sorry…chars
heh heh I turned down the light so there would be less contrast. They always have a strange color on the tip of the root.
Yah he used the same nutrients I used…chemical, that is, no beneficial organisms - that’s not how dwc works. I can instruct you on creating a pathogen zone but it takes 2 weeks to really start growing. I mean the pathogens. Just float out a chunk of rockwool in a bubbling res of nutrients. With the constant moisture and nutrient exposure on the surface of the rockwool to the light - you will get interesting colonies of crazy shit.
ok! I followed my own advice, and here’s what happened.
I generated pathogens! sweeeeet!
see them white ballz? Definitely not healthy!
Eventually the whole clone turned into a mush pile starting at the bottom and working it’s way up. Those little white balls had infested the entire epidermis of the stalk.
got more funky photos. In case those white balls are trichomes, check this out!
Then some stuff that makes it look like someone took a crap on it.
Just some fun bedtime photos! I would have to go on a microscopic pathogen identifying journey, to figure out wtf is in those pics.
At harvest of this Calizahr that was grown from a 16 year old seed.
Running sterile? Those look really white
ohh wait until you see the pathogens I generated by exposing nutrient solution to the light on this piece of neoprene. It’s thriving! Kind of thing that’ll give you the heebie jeebies.
It was like a whole team of super-turds until the water evaporated and they all died. You can see what’s left. I will post the video as well, it’s amazing.
No. Cold water and a balanced diet
