Things That Make You Go Hmmm (Part 1)

Oh snap, you ever see any diamondback terrapins?

Hands down my favorite turtle.

I used to have a DM TP! I called him Njord and he lived 15 years and I miss him.

Was it very long ago?

Yes. I’ll look for pictures and share. He was raised in captivity here in Canada, never crossed a boarder.

Edit: found him!

And basking at the edge of his “apartment”:

That’s awesome. Have only ever seen one or two in real life. Was the inspiration for this drawing.

wow, very cool, wikipedia says they only go as far north as Cape Cod, I am on the edge of the 18,000 acre Great Marsh which is on the North Shore of Boston so they may not be here. Will have to look for them. The marsh is a bug-ridden hell this time of year, when the greenheads are done I might have to go look for these guys.

I know a couple places around Plum Island that would be great to look for them - Stackyard Road.

Yeah the shit in the air is horrible right now. Here’s the current PM2.5 readings above Namerica:

(edit: PM2. 5 refers to particles that have diameter less than 2.5 micrometres (more than 100 times thinner than a human hair) and remain suspended for longer)

most interesting! No chance of seeing these guys up here apparently:

this sucks!! Cape Cod has become a giant house-farm of incredibly boring and uptight people - MassAudubon should release some of the babies up here in Parker River Wildlife Refuge.

The Diamondback Terrapin is officially listed as “Threatened” in Massachusetts. Local populations have fallen dramatically, especially on Cape Cod.

A very active sunspot group will rotate into view this week.

https://spaceweather.com/

This is the same group that gave loose some tremendous solar eruptions last week that fortunately were blasting away from the Earth.
Fortunate as if those were directed at Earth, some like Ben Davidson at Suspicious0bservers say that it could wipe our Electrical Civilization right off the planet.

The blast WAS directed at Mars so we might expect to see some disruption of the Rovers or Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in a couple days, 23 and 24th

Great, just what we need right now, a Carrington type of event.

The potential exists that any copper grids such as wire and pipes will become antennas for unthinkable amounts of space energy from the Sun.

No wonder Amish and Mennonites rip out all the wire and plumbing from homes they buy.

One thing Ben coined and we have going for us was the term the “earth facing quiet” which is the observable tendency of sunspots and flares to quiet down when facing the Earth.

"…for the earth tends to diminish the spots and to quiet down the
commotions on the sun."
And
“Nor do we know by what means the earth influences the sun. We have seen that it tends to quiet some of his disturbances, but how we do not know. Nor do we know if sometimes, or by some means, it or any of the other members of his family may tend to rouse him to greater activity.”
