Let the two tops grow a bit, and then bend them over letting some of the lowers reach the same height. This give you 4 good sized tops and with a little clever tying should get you to 6 no problem.
Plants are in a good place now to veg for a few weeks without anything other than water. Let’s see where they get after 20-30 days of only focusing on proper watering protocols and keeping the environment in perfect VPD!
If that was mine, I’d be letting em get a lil bigger then fimm, give it another 2 weeks and fimm the several tops again then 2 more weeks then flip. I don’t do ANY defoliations until halfway through flower or a month whichever is sooner
Let them grow another week then lst them bringing the top node down to where your lower branches sit. Easiest way to get multiple tops with minimal stress.
I have really good luck with topping twice a week apart. I often take the two largest fans at the top when I top as well, and this is with autos… If those are my plants, I open up more light to the canopy below quickly, but I know a lot of people don’t like to defoliate like I do, and it can be a thin line between defoliating and the plant getting on with it, and going too far. I’ll also take the two bottom branches and then top a few days later and then lollipop, again, with autos, so it should be less issue for you
@Foreigner Yeah… I like to torture mine to see if they can take it
Oddly, I’ve done this with 4 autos and all 4 have yielded 1 lb.+ each (I think, still need to trim and weigh two), they showed no visible signs of stress and keep right on branching/growing. I took probably 100 leaves and 4 large branches from an auto watermelon skittles on one go, she wasn’t phased much and those branches are alive at day 131 as clones
I tend to top above the 4th node, and then top those once more after theyve grown 1 node further. This give 4 good main tops and I’ll get 2-4 good side branch tops. Depending how large you grow the plant, those tops will have branching so you have alot to work with.
I dont do any defol until later in veg and early flowering. I also defol less than most. I take out alot of stuff from the inside of the tops where it’s all clustered, also removing bottom 3rd of the plants shoots and leaf. As bud sites develope I’ll tuck/remove leaf as needed to get more light penetration.
I usually top seedlings once they show 5 or 6nodes, cutting off two nodes of growth leaving 4.
Then I clean up the bottom node or two depending on how they’re looking, leaving four to six main tops.
I rarely grow untopped since I’m inside in a short tent. If the plant does well like that, then I know the clones will also do well and fill the space accordingly.
I’ve seen that topping and super cropping can be a great tool at various stages of the grow. I’ll take as late as there being 10 nodes, and as soon as there being 3-4. It all depends on how a plant is growing and what I want it to do.
