Not many know but J.J. Cale was the original song writer for this and a few other Clapton songs. He also wrote a few Lynyrd Skynyrd songs also and others for other artists

I ended up listening to a little bit of “Captain Forbin’s Ascent” (some Phish song) because I Googled Captain Forbin expecting to find out about some Ethan Allen-esque VT historical figure.
God I hate Phish.
