Ahh, the sublime Bill Evans. Although I dig almost everything he recorded, I have a preference for his Trio with Scott LaFaro on bass.
Tragically, LaFaro was killed in July 1961, just weeks after this was recorded in June 1961.
He was only 25.
As far as vocals: “nothing makes me wanna disappear, as when someone opens their mouth…hmm hm hm hm hmmmmm”
But I’m a sucker for a lonely horn
I very much agree with you about instrumental music, so many vocalists have ruined great music by mostly complaining and whining, the amount of self defeating negativity in lyrics is astounding, it’s no surprise that so many singers die young, they keep reinforcing what’s wrong and thus keep attracting more of the same “bad luck” while all that’s needed is a change of mindset and moderation.
That being said, I’m very grateful for all the instrumental jazz music that swings and moves deeply and freely, always influencing my mood for the better.
