What Do You Expect from Testers?

i’ve had a couple tester threads for the crosses i’ve made, one just started. I would be happy to get like 2 updates and a final shot of the buds/smoke report, but that’s up to the testers. some people are responding very frequently and i can’t complain about that but i don’t expect it. I initially started with stricter guidelines ( start time etc) but i realize not everyone can start them right away and not everyone feels comfortable posting updates and whatnot. i’m just happy people are growing my crosses. i’m trying to loosen the guidelines and offer seeds to some people that didn’t qualify 100 percent, start time etc. so we’ll see how it goes. i’m trying to find more testers, and i only ask them to answer three questions, (why do you want them?, when can you start them? and where are you from? (logistics). i think more people will sign up once they see how some of these testers grow. i’ve arranged for seeds to be distributed by the kind @DougDawson in canada/elsewhere so big thanks to him. i hope this helps.

I totally get this. I always feel bad when buddies want to give me cuts or test seeds and I just don’t have the spare space to accommodate. :man_shrugging:

Thanks to all for your responses! It seems my presumption is correct, which is basically take your time, do it right, and be completely honest about not only the results, but what ones capabilities are to fulfill such an obligation. That said, sorry I couldn’t respond sooner, as I am new and had limited posting abilities. Thankfully, I am back and can continue to post and check out the site more intimately.
Peace

I was picked to be a tester when I was brand new. I was picked because I was. It was so fun and a great grow. I don’t think it was continued but I really loved doing it along with some awesome growers he.

For that reason I only offered fire or expected fire. So far everybody took the seeds and disappeared.

Well they shouldn’t just take your seeds that’s not cool my comment is more one of entitlement.

I gift a lot so it’s their mistake. But I’ve tired of shipping genetics and will refrain. I was only wanting their opinions of what I think is epic fire. A public reality check. I designed machines before and watching how people actually try to operate things is an eye opener. Totally open people are valuable for their opinions. The same applies to weed genetics. There’s only two kinds of weed, the WOW and the rest.

IMO, you should test the seeds yourself, foremost… If the seeds grow great in your environment, its time to test in alot of different environments.
Here’s where testers are great. So how ill choose testers are based on the grow setup and what I expect are a final statement if they would grow it again and if not, why. Nothing else is important tbh.

Imo testers can be a good thing if you are about to sell the beans. But if your are just chucking along and crossing stuff, you should really grow them yourself. Also, ive noticed over the years that if you got pics to show of your finished crosses. You’ll end up with better testers. It will also prove that you have actually put some time, thought and energy into the actual cross.

-Push that big green button and hold it for two seconds, the thing will happen.
—Hey this is a POS. I pushed it for half a second and nothing happened, so I had to start adjusting sensors. Now it’s on fire. I want my old one back that I’ve complained about for 10 years.
-Just hold it for two seconds…
—And I needed to bang it with a hammer a lot too

I barely know how to work my Coffee machine.

In my world that means an idiot designed it. From looking at the machine you should how it works. Things get broken when people don’t understand. That’s the designer’s fault.

My .02 on tester beans.

I guess it does depend on the beans to some extent.
But that would be a personal preference…

If you think about it logically what is the value of the seeds that are being offered? Let’s say for arguments sake the seeds retail for $60 a pack. When you factor in the time it takes for pop seeds, setting up pots with medium-planting, watering and everything that just goes into it $60 of my time is not very long. Opinions may very here.

With that said, If you have a seedling that is kicking out some true leaves then you have already met the $60 threshold in my book. Again, opinions may vary

Pictures:
I guess it is rather easy to snap a pic or two but some people want to set up a pic so that the plant or plants look good in the shot. Once again more time is involved. It takes time to upload pics, edit pics… blah blah blah…

I guess what I am saying if someone came up to you and said here are some seeds and I would like you to grow them. In return I want you to document the entire grow and send pics most people including me would like… PASS… and I am not talking about 48 this kind of pass…This is a lot of work for some $60 beans… Plus I would have the whole document grow thing hanging over my head. Naaaa!

If on the other hand if you have some fairly easy requirements like: Grow them out, snap a couple of pics during veg and a few good flower pics I think more growers would be on board to be testers.
I think asking people to grow tester beans within a period of time is :100: acceptable also. Just realize that growers are running their grows and it may take a minute to make room in the lineup for some new beans. I mean there can be all kinds of stipulations for growing tester beans but one must realize life happens and you just never know whats going to happen so be chill and grow lets grow some weed

I think :arrow_double_up: is the OG way to look at it.

That Blueberry Diesel (Blueberry Pie and Chem Fuego) sounds weed2 @anonymous4289.
Blueberry Pie= (GSC x Blue Dream)?
Chem Fuego= (Sour Diesel x Head Band x Chem Dawg) ?

Pretty Surprised… you have not filled up all your tester slots…
Might have just talked myself into it…

On a side note I did finally decide to grow some tester beans and the facilitator of the beans is chill as F. Just wants a few pics during veg and some good flower shots. As only a few things were asked I will end up giving more than asked as there is no pressure.

No Pressure in my book equals good vibes. Good vibes equals a happy grow. Happy grow vibes usually reap bigger rewards for everyone. :call_me_hand:

I like the no strings attached approach if I grow them and there worthy of mention I’ll post the crap out of them and probably still be posting pics and little tidbits a year later if they become permanent residence in my room.

I’ve got the space so that’s not a issue weekly reports can be a bit of a pain but helpful to the breeder .
I some times have a tendency to over veg stuff so a breeder is sitting there waiting on the flower pics and I’m doing a 3 month veg on them.

Then there is the damping off over watering general killing of seedlings that happen also and the report stalls or is forgot about.

It’s a slippery slope to try and comply but some times things go sideways .

That really sucks, @SativaKid , hope it doesn’t happen again for you. Amazing and ridiculous at the same time what people will do for a few beans, when if they did a simple job right, developed a good reputation, they’d prob have more gear than they knew what to do with.

I said I was done testing lol
Now I have 3 folks stuff running and
2 or 3 more on the way…

What to expect…
What you state, if you say grow 6 plants asap and show them that’s exactly what you should get.

I’m of the opinion that if someone takes the time
Spends on mailing and I agree to do something
It should go as asked .
Thing is you can make some strong friendships
That way.
At first your 2 newbs to each other, but over time
Ya get to be friends, develope trust etc.

I pick who I want to test for after I have read what they do, how long etc etc.
If I want to test your beans it’s because i think you know what your doing, other folks speak well of you
Etc.
I see it as a 2 way street that can make life long friends.
Nothing worth doing is effortless.
I just picked someone who is not know well here
To test his gear, but in reading his post it was obvious he took what he’s doing seriously and
Was doing real research.
That was enough for me,I take it seriously
Want my Breeder to be the same.
A grow can last 5 months, that’s 5 months of time and effort that deserves both party’s live up to agreements.
On my end new fresh dirt
Clean pots etc, ph adjusted water, all the things
To make happy plants.
On their end strain description and flower times
And what were looking for etc.

? just spreading your work (seeds) no matter if one grows them is OK - BUT it’s great when a member runs them
