Why is my Fan "Bleeding"?

Okay, so I have one of those 16" tabletop fans that I run to cool my room down and for some time I have been noticing an oily liquid around the plastic base. I wipe it up and a few days later it is back. At first I thought it was some VG tincture that I had open (sorta) behind it and it had been atomized and sucked into the fan and was seeping out. I moved the beaker and opened up the fan and cleaned it (wiped it down and removed any lint and such (it was dry). A few days later… more liquid.

Any suggestions? I would rather not buy a new one as this was works just fine… well except for the bleeding(?).

Really difficult to say what that could be with limited information. Wish I could be more help best of luck.

Are you in an unusually humid area? It could be moisture buildup with dust and whatever, mixed in.

If you check it after a night of lights out, it could be “dew” from the plant’s transpiration. ??

If its an oscillating fan it could be oil/melted grease from the mechanism, any oil streaks down the column?

It actually isn’t in a plant area, just in the room. Actually dry area, SoCal. I also cleaned the entire mechanism, which was dry. I have no idea. There was absolutely no moisture anywhere except under the plastic base. I am going to try to take a picture when it happens in a few days I am sure.

No, no streaks anywhere on the fan

Ok, does the part the oils coming from move or is it loose?

No, it just seems to appear under the plastic base. I am going to take a pic of it when it happens again.

I second this statement.

I’m betting its oil/lube/grease. I bet after a few hrs of running the motor is getting hot. Pics please

Actually, it isn’t even warm and I have had it running for 24 hrs straight.

Like I said, it usually takes a few days to start, so I will post pics as soon as it does.
