YO! GTV Raps

Respect to Soundview! :fist:t3:
@dequilo Do you remember hearing this on the radio back in the day? Not necessarily clear cut examples of Jay Z biting other rappers, but some are pretty questionable. Can’t remember who originated this, but it’s a lot of work to put something like this together.

Good lyrics, but too much “bit-crusher” on the drum sounds.
I’ll check his other stuff out, good recommendation.

Small cities deep in rural california like Stockton and Salinas are no joke.

When I was kid there were giant road signs of painted truckers for all the towns along a certain stretch of highway (I think it was el camino real).
Each had something to identify the town. For example a town with fruit packing industry might have a smiling trucker holding a peach, or a potato or something.

The sign for Salinas was a trucker crying tears of blood for all the people who died going through Salinas.

You won’t catch me in a city like Stockton, Salinas, Bakersfield, or Redding ever again.

That’s dope man. I love making music, but I never had friends who were willing to collaborate.
I’d love to hear some of your stuff.

Jacka and Lee Majors “salute to the b-boy era”

this is jacka at his most hyphy.
usually he was strictly gangster rap, but his hyphy music is also dope.

hilarious music video. the transaction at the beginning defies all logic.
And how could you not love a rapper who occasionally spits a few bars in a scooby doo voice?
My favorite thing about bay area rap is the sense of humor.

Starts off pure hyphy, then jacka comes in on the second verse and changes the tone to pure paranoia.

J-stunna is a great guy. genuine, and really funny.
Without tipping any cards, I wish I could still get in touch with him to invite him to join overgrow.
I’m pretty sure he could show us all a thing or two.
These songs still crack me up.

I always though the hyphy movement was in Florida?

the south has Crunk, which is a little bit similar. It’s a different specific party vibe.
Crunk also has it’s own dances, like ‘the musty’.

Learn something new everyday. For some reason i thought G-Easy was from miami and I know he was considered to be part of the hyphy scene. Turns out hes from oakland. Now i know.

This old video “Buy Kush Legally with Jacka” really cracked me up.

He likes the taste of the taste.

I get nostalgic for the now defunct prop 215 prop 420 california medical scene. The first dispensary they hit is the green door, which was my main weed spot after I got my medical card when I turned 18. I used to buy an eighth and some keef, head up to the green door lounge with some friends, get ripped, and then stumble a few blocks over to the Sony Metreon and catch a movie. We used to buy one ticket, take an edible in the theater, and then watch about 5 movies.

One time we passed out in the theater, and woke up with the cleaning crew working around us. they were super cool about it, and said we could stay for the next showing if we had slept through the ending haha.

There’s a lot of really hilarious wrong information in this video, but it’s funny because that’s what weed culture was like for all of us before we started growing.

edited because the link was fucked up. Man seeing that green door menu seriously brings back the memories. I miss that god’s gift purple, that 3x crazy, and real OG.
I do not miss $15 grams and $60 eighths hahaha

If anyone ever sold their soul to the devil at the crossroads for rap skills, it was probably J-Stalin.

the catalyst is a club in santa cruz, this ones kinda funny for me because I got banned from the catalyst for smoking and giving away joints after my first grow.

My favorite thing about the green door?
I can go to the green door all day long without getting jacked, but 2chainz can’t.
Sorry 2chainz. Being rich won’t get you everything.

You see that move where 2chainz’ crew scatters in every direction that is away from 2chainz?
We used to call that move “the Starfish.”
