Thanks @Bert it’s in my mom in laws backyard.
We are attempting to build our own little vegetable/fruit forest in the back half and setup our “camping site” in the front half. We have our tent, Propane firepit and wood burning fire pit, and other stuff we used camping last summer.
This year’s goal, inclose the backyard with 3 separate fences, 1 is done so far. Then plant food we love like crazy. We gave 3 apple trees “whips” so far in here.
Mostly everything is super cheap or free.
The fence is a recycled deck that came from a local guy who removed his deck.
Paid for all the vegetables seeds and trees, 3 apple trees was $100.00 and gas to oick them up.
Wood chips are free from local arborist company about 11 yards.
Slab wood was free, a guy was thining his forest and wanted to help people with free wood.
I paid for the rain barrel (Amazon $89) metal fence posts hardware $80 and gas (didn’t track lol) time and labor. I love recycled materials when possible.
Other lumber was from last year’s deck build leftovers and have a load of wood boards from free pallets for building trellises and stuff.
That’s EXCATLTY what I’m doing, we have the 3 trees about 4 ish feet apart and plan to build a trellises to support and train the branches so they all stay 6 feet tall and about 12 ish feet wide.
Same for the concord grape we have from our trip to Niagara Falls last summer.
Doing this stuff is extremely expensive, that why I’m always searching for free stuff lol or try to find things to recycle for this garden project.
I know a few places to get sheep or horse manure/compost, so I’ll be on the lookout for that too now. The slab wood was a great score late last night, had to drive 90km to pick it up BUT I saved tons of $ not purchasing from the hardware store and I know for sure there is zero chemicals in this wood to use a garden boxes.
I treat my suv like a truck lmao
That little deck in the background I built last summer with purchased wood. My wife also spread out more cardboard and woodchips.
Today we made this, I ain’t no carpenter just so ya know lol all i can say at this point is, it’s functional.
Made from 5/8" slab wood boards, Pallet boards, Pallet 2x4s, 2x leftover 4x4 pressure treated beams, and 1 leftover pressure treated 2x6 for the above head peice.
Also, building anything on a slop SUCKS.
Lastly, due to underground utilities lines, I was not able to Dig post holes, had to build “cribbage” fill with rocks/bricks to keep it strong, since it’s a free standing structure.
I would run diagonal supports from corner of your head board to the far corner to corresponding side of the fence. Might help sure up the whole fence and head board. Idk just a thought but looks good. Anytime you can reporpose wood is awesome. What is the flowering time on the jg?
Looks freaking good @CADMAN! Sounds like once you get all the ballast in the cribbage and hide it under all that woodchips you’re sailing.
Mayhap cut some boards making a ramp up and down the walkway part of the board in the footpath before you cover it up?
I’m thinking how my wood chips sink every season. so if you reinforce the throughway like this: */|* you can run slats along horizontally for footing and to hold the chips hiding it.
It’ll also act like another foot for the structure to keep steady.
If you use a wheelbarrow I can totally see you nutting yourself down the road hitting that board just as the chips sink.
I see what you mean. That whole side of the house is gonna be a dead zone. Building a fence at the back of this walkway blocking it off completely. Only reason for the gate at all is cause I gotta remove that AC again in the future and the meter reading person needs access to the meter. Other then that, no specific uses.
Planning to fill up that whole walkway with woodchips and looking around for a large/flat rock to use as a step up from the entrance way into the path.
Once the cribbage is filled with rocks, I’ll add more boards to make a planters for flowers and to hide the rocks lol
No wheel barrels here, I’m using 5 gal buckets to move the chips lol
I like your style bro. We use and reuse everything we can. One of my outbuildings was made 100% out of used pallets from the local boat factory. They were just piling them up to burn and I stopped to ask about them. “Take all you want”, they said. So I did.
Most were single use pallets that were made from boards that looked fresh as the day they were milled. I hauled at least 15 trailer loads from that factory in a year.
