Coin collectors/collection

I have never seen these before and they have no dates on them…does anyone have any info?

Buffalo (aka Indian Head) nickels. Not worth much in that condition.

Doesn’t look like they’re worth much, even the more rare ones. Without a date, I guess it’s worth about six cents.

Or…

US $2,500.00

Really…my buddy has a total of 16 of them…he got them at his ATM machine in his bar…these were what the ATM machine spit out when he cashed his gambling tickets from a poker machine…

Some are far less too.
That is probably as high as they go.
These sorta things sell best to real collectors, they are worth more to certain people.

Good luck!

Money laundering.

Funny, if he makes a profit, he will have done better at the ATM machine than the poker machine. :exploding_head:

Imagine the conversation…

“Where you goin’ willie?”

“Down to the corner bar, to play the ATM machine”

“Willie, dont you mean the poker machine?”

“Naw, I do better at the ATM”…

Money laundering is a plausible explanation, I suppose. If it’s for real, well, I’m just passing on what the article said. Presumably they’re not marketing to serious numismatists… the pictures are grainy and unclear, there are no marks that would identify it as being particularly rare, and there are other, far cheaper buffalo nickels that eBay suggests when I look at the page. I can’t see any reason anyone would actually buy it, and it’s been posted for about 2 years. :man_shrugging:

That was a win-win.

No, not really. If it’s that worn that no date is visible, it’s not worth much more than $0.05. I’d normally recommend getting a coin book to look up value, but values are listed by date and condition. No date = out of luck. (Unless there’s documented evidence that a minting error led to the date not being on the coin.)

For example, I have a few Liberty head nickels (older than the design you pictured and dates are legible) and they’re worth around $5 each.

I just was gifted some collectible Canadian silver coins. I know nothing about coins but I discovered there is the face value, the raw silver value, and the collector value all of which are quite different.

I used to have (maybe still do somewhere) some ancient Roman and Greek coins in shitty condition but I like them very much. My brother also gave me a reichmark. That’s a loaded piece of metal.

All the best.

Correct. Though unfortunately there is no silver in Buffalo nickels. They are worth about $0.06 on the metal value alone.

The no date $2500 nickel could be a mistake which collectors love as opposed to the date worn off.

While possible for some coins, not for the buffalo nickel. See below link, which confirms the US Mint did not make any “no date” errors on these nickels.

Don’t check the internet for coin prices…it’s all BS. I have found some very valuable coins and at one point on the internet it tells me they are a worth a ton and another instance it’s says they are worth nothing. Imo you should take it to an insurance person that deals with coins. They will tell you a fair price, or at least what they will insure it for .
