Free Seeds & Free Clones Thread Vol. 4

I can tell you an old for cheap hack that works on gnats.
Get a container such as a 10x10 cake pan, fill it about 1/2 inch full with warm water, put some apple juice (or some sweetener) in it and then about 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap in and mix it up. Place it as near the lights as possible.
If your fighting high humidity just take it out when lights are off. That’ll help a little anyway.
I can tell you this though. It will definitely catch gnats or anything else flying around the lights.

What about a window screen cut to fit the top of the bag and split so it can go around the base of the plant?

Not sure, the idea with the steel wool is it shreds them as they try to get to or out of soil. Dont think a screen would have the same effect. You can water right through the steel wool and it even adds a bit of iron to your medium as it rusts.

I read that they are attracted to the color yellow. It resembles a dying plant and they head right for it. I am going to set two of those home made traps next to on another near my house plants. I’ve seen some black gnats flying around there. I’ll put a yellow something in the bottom of one tray and see which they go after.

That’s what DT does too but the iron thing is interesting!

Yeah, I like the concept. Super cheap but it takes a bit longer as you have to wait for all the ones in medium to come out but it’s no issue leaving the steel wool in place since you can water through it. They use non toxic metal for steel wool so totally safe.

I got this pack of mixed seeds as a freebie from Peak seeds BC. I have too many things to grow and mystery seeds are not on the list. If somebody wants to take a shot at growing them just say diberoony. Could be some fire in the pack.

I use DE on the surface of the soil. Not a lot. The trick is to water your plants and the next morning dust the soil with DE . It has to be dry to work. If it gets wet it just turns into a mud and soaks into the soil. DE is suppose to work on a microscopic level. The soft bodied bug will drag the body across the DE and cut up the abdomen of the bug and dehydrates it. I still catch one or two on the sticky trap occasionally but they are for the most part gone.
