General use Gardening thread

Thank you about the info and answering my question.

I asked because cherry is not that common in our country.

Weird but I’m obsessed with cherry cool aid taste. Soaked maraschino has this cherry cool aid taste, not that strong.

Thank you

Maraschino isn’t actually a variety of cherry. They become maraschino/cocktail cherries after you brine them and soak them. They must be a sweet cherry variety you have though.

Edit: Would be super cool if you had two massive trees that produced jarred maraschino cherries though. Would almost be a money tree. Haha.

Ill take a pic next year. They look the same as a maraschino cherry, a little sweet at the ripe point. Bright candy red, and just the same size as a maraschino cherry. Fil was saying i could make them into that, im going to get a 30 ft ladder. Or something else i dont want to hurt them by putting ropes on the branches and shaking em off… but they are about a nickel or dime size. Bright red. Its the most awesome thing to find on my new property

Im thinking i have these., except the trees are massive and hard to pick. Had to pull up the dozer and get on the cab to get a handful.

Pits are seeds, so if you can get some Bing and Rainier cherries you’d be good to go. Ideally you’d find a small tree to order. Starting from seed can take years to see any fruit. Also, Bing and Rainier cherries are pretty tough to grow outside of their zones. I’m not sure what their chill hour requirements are and whatnot. Not much point growing them if you can’t hit that.

Edit: I can really only grow Barbados cherries here and they’re no Bing or Rainier cherries for sure. I just like seeing the cherry tree though. Also, I don’t mind if animals and birds eat all of my fruits and whatnot, because they can’t go to the store and buy some, but I can. Haha.

Well, I couldn’t wait to make some Charged Biochar, soooooo! Like any normal person, I binged watched 30 videos & recalled previous knowledge of making Biochar & scoured the garage for All plant nutrition I could find.

This kids pool has four 5 gal buckets of spent wood burning charcoal leftover from my firepit, so 20 gal of starting material.

(Ill come back later today & fill in the blanks as I’ve yet to finish this today)

I smashed it up into smaller peices (about the size of a quarter or smaller) Then grapped Indgredents:

(The entire contents of each container, some full some half full)

Wallace WOW - Soluble Humic/Fluval Acid.
Botanicare - 3-2-4 Vegatative Nutrients
Gaia Green - Super fly insect frass
Gaia Green - Glacial Rock Dust
Gaia Green - 3-3-3 All Purpose fertilizer
(Eyeballed) 2 cups of Calcium for plants
1 cup(ish) of Organic Chia Seeds (why not?)
3 ish cups of regular iceing sugar to feed microscopic life
1 bag of mushroom compost.

Then added RAIN WATER :droplet: & mixed like a mad scientist!

Ill cover this whole pool with arborists mulch/wood chips for the whole winter and we will come back and visit this post in the spring!

Will this work? I dont F King know lol

I planted a cherry in my orchard, going to be digging some up at my families house and planted them as well. They are soo good. They are big and dark purple. Very good. We have like 5 of them that are 40 foot tall, with volunteers ready to be dug up!

That sounds awesome :ok_hand: and sounds like BIG Trees.

I must keep all my trees under 9ft tall, with heavy pruning.

That’s what’s underneath and I got sick of wheeling it away and dumping it, so I’m just slinging it around with a shuffle now when I dig out holes. It’ll all be mulched and covered up eventually.

Laying out weed fabric in crazy wind is soooo much fun. Haha. I’m ready to cave someone’s face in.

@PatHealy unroll a little fabric, place rock on that, then roll it out. Since the rock is holding the other side for you.
