I'm gonna try Blumats in coco!

What’s up OGers! :metal:. Okay so I’ve been strictly hand watering now, daily, for years. I’ve had some drip systems on my wish list, but for the sake of “minimal moving parts” I’ve continued to opt for hand watering.

Well, as many of you may already know, this is hard if not impossible to manage when you need to be away for lengthy periods. I’ve also had my eye on Blumats mostly due to my whole moving parts mantra.

I’m starting with two per pot, 5gal coco fabric pots

I also threw a clean drip tray over the tiny water reservoir just to keep the light out :man_shrugging:t2:

Just using plain tap water pH to 6.2 for now

I need to try out my easy2go kit for the same reason. Has moving parts, but it’s a simple mechanism.

How long are your carrots? I use blumats in soil all the time, they are great. I have read that a lot of perlite can cause issues with how they work.

They’re HELLA short, are there different sizes?? I just grabbed the cheapest “Prime” option on amazon. 1.5 inches, thereabouts

Yea you can get ones that go deeper. Mine are fairly shallow as well, I shove them in as deep as I can so that they still drip properly.

I use the blumats too
Theres like 4 sizes of “carrots”
The ones you have are the smallest,
I use the next size up, i think called “tropf”

theres really long ones for a raised beds too.

Fool proof once you dial em in!

They are, and once you dial them in once, you should have a very easy time moving forward. For me I find the set up to be a pain in the ass, I haven’t used them the last 2 runs.

Im going to be buying some of these real soon. Ever since switing to autopots in my flower tent im basically over hand watering my plants. Im taking cuts of all my mothers and making bonsi moms out of them. The small blumats should work perfect for 2 gallon pots.

Are any of you guys running nutrients thru your Blumats? Or are these “water only”? --I’m basically just using mine with plain water to keep the coco from going bone-dry too soon while I’m away from the room

Man, I don’t know if you want to run straight water in coco. I run water, beneficials, and silica through mine. Low dose of silica.

I don’t. …but only for 2-3 days tops, better than going bone dry.

What do you use for nutes? What lines do you use?

Botanicare but with GH Amor Si/silica.

I’d run the appropriate nutes. How long do you have until you leave?

We have a house sitter but i prefer they stay out of the room. I’m just using them right now with water to gauge if the pots dry out as quickly as they do without them. So far so good, I still hand water with nutes while I’m still home.

Well hell, if you’re running stuff thru yours I might try that out too :+1: :+1:

You can have them design a system for you for free at sustainable village. they’ll make a little diagram and a parts list.
If you really want to run them I’d suggest getting the longer carrots, a single 5 inch or 9 inch will work in 5 gallons. They make preset carrots too so you don’t have to go through as much time trying to perfectly dial them yourself.
Also a bigger gravity fed reservoir will make a huge difference, especially if you’re trying to have some runoff as is the norm in coco.
I just got mine set up like a month ago and I’m absolutely in love with them. I fill my 5gal res once every 4 days and the plants are happy as hell. Learned my lesson that almost nothing other than water (or salt nutes) is okay in there, but one thing that has been fine for a few weeks now is hyshield chitosan.

Also, also at sustainable Village (The American supplier for blumats) they recommend that you get the digital moisture meter so you can see a read out of how moist your media is at different settings or different times, and I would recommend the same. It’s been a great help dialing them in and knowing that they’re watering accurately and when needed.

Here’s my plants end of April, 2 weeks of veg after transplant and hooking blumats up, 2 weeks into flower now and they’re absolutely thriving!

What beneficials you running through blumats? Anything organic/microbial my rez was stanky and slimy within a day or 2.
Only things that don’t funk it up have been salt nutes (tried at first for 1 fill with no issues), water, hyclean enzyme cleaner and hyshield chitosan.
Just used some soapbark extract powder in it lastnight to see if that’s cool which I expect it should be.
These things are touchy though and a bit of a pain to clean/flush depending on how clogged they get, but I love em!

Garden friendly fungicide by southern ag. I use food safe garbage cans that are light proof for my res. I also use 2 pumps. 1 to feed the lines and 1 to keep everything mixed and moving.

Shouldn’t be an issue. occasionally I will run straight RO water through the plants for a day or two without problems. The coco with hold EC within that short period of time. The plants will be ready for a blast of nutrients by the end of it though.

Out of curiosity what is the PPM/EC of the solution you’re using with botanicare?

Im not sure about the little ones, i think they are wicking style, and will clog easier than the dripper style ones with the knob and tube-pincher style.

I run the 3 part Gen hydro liqued nutes. Rinse with water and DRIP CLEAN to remove salts buildups

The 12 pack for ~90$ has everything to setup a resivoir.
