Ya…that’s how I remember it! We wore ear protection, but I’m guessing if you did it that long, probably not, or not as protective as it is now.

When I first started we had no ear protection at all. After 4 years I started bringing my own since the company wouldn’t supply it. After OSHA raised hell the companies had to supply all employee’s with ear protection. Actually I was a climber most of my career and right handed so my right ear is more damaged then my left even with ear protection because of the chainsaws.
