Mornin’. Not sure if it’s a good one yet.

My personal/toy truck’s exhaust finally quit on me recently. It’s an almost 30 year old truck and the exhuast was rusted to shit so I knew it was coming but one day driving down the road the truck just suddenly got way throatier. Exhaust pipe completely cracked off at the rear coupler on the muffler.

I took it to a shop my dad has used for decades and told them “not sure if you can figure out what was on there but if so I want the same thing, if not I want a Flowmaster 40 series”. I get a call at work yesterday asking where I want my tailpipe to exit and I tell them same place. Then I ask if they were able to find out what the old muffler was and he said “no but we put something similar on, it’s a Flo Pro, the one you wanted was $300 so we saved you some money this was $200”. I said the one I wanted is $140 dollars at Advance and he pauses and says “yeah so we saved you some money”.

I’m fuming but I’m expected to take it easy on them cause my dad has a longstanding relationship with them. I’ll give the muffler they put on a chance but holy hell if it’s anything less than great am I going to lose it on them. “Please put this specific part on that I am paying for” - “Best we can do is put on whatever the f we want and screw what the customer wants”.

Bet you didn’t expect all that!

May not make you feel any better, but I had Flo Pro mufflers on my 1980 Cutlass and I liked them.

My poison was always Pontiac, but I really like Oldsmobile for comfort.
I had a '67 GTO that I was in love with. Totaled. Then I had a1980 Turbo Trans Am Indy Pace Car Replica. And various Bonnevilles, Grand Ams, etc

I had a Delta 88. That thing was dangerous. You would look down and see that you were hitting 20mph above the speed limit and just felt like it was a normal cruise.

I think the one I regret letting go the most was my 53 Buick Special. That was a tank but it felt so dang great when people rubbernecked my ride.
That thing was a tank but that flathead straight 8 cylinder would smoke the tires in first and second then bark them in third. It was just an awesome car, drove like a dream, and the ride!

My Camaro was a sheep in wolves clothing but I loved that thing. She turned a few eyes too. lol
Just always get her parked quick before anyone heard that banging 6 under the hood. lol
Had plans to put something in her that she deserved but got married instead.

Well that’s fucked up. Never good for the blood pressure. I just exited a 38 year relationship with a local auto repair shop. My buddies son can’t hold the torch. Couldn’t get a damn estimate to replace an AC hose for 24 hours? Really? Parts plus laber? Basic fucking math.
Why have a service oriented biz, but no service?
