Nicotine as an insecticide

I know that nicotine was long ago used heavily as an insecticide.

I have a liter of 99.x% pure nicotine, was wondering if it had an application for weed? Properly diluted of course…

Anyone seen any data on it?

I had a great uncle who used to save a few of his cigarette butts (unfiltered).
He would throw a few into a small glass of water and let it stand for a day or two, decant off the liquid into an old hand pump sprayer and fill with water…

(that thing smelled evil…)

His roses were perfect, nothing touched them, especially the kids…

…It was decades later I figured out how it worked.

And caffeine powder?

100% agree. I have all the PPE and mix my own ejuice.

I bought the pure nic when the FDA started threatening vape gear. Vaping works for me, nothing else ever did, I wasnt going to let the FDA choke off my access.

In addition to ventilation, I use appropriate PPE.

Awesome :ok_hand: I’ve done my fair share of mixing too, only thing that helped me get off cigs too. :muscle:

Black Leaf 40 was a common item in garden centers. 40% nicotine sulphate earned the bottle a skull and crossbones on the label.

I’d like to point out to anybody unaware that tobacco mosaic virus can take out your plants. Nicotine is safe to use properly but if you’re handling tobacco and get a tainted batch it’ll be a serious issue. I think it was @herojuana.tom who told me about this.

It is my understanding that laboratory 99.x% USP grade nicotine, the type used for vaping, is so refined that it is NOT a vector for tobacco mosaic virus.

Best bet is probably to find the mixing instructions for the Black Leaf 40, then go from there, either using .4 (40%) of the required amount, or make a 40% nicotine stock solution then use it per the BL40 instructions

Looks like about 0.5% total nicotine solution would do the trick?

You’re probably correct. That’s why I specified handling tobacco. I didn’t think it applied to your situation just was a general warning about the cigarette soak.

I found using the pure nic very impractical so now I just buy the 20mg/ml and work with that.

Still dangerous, and I don’t know how it would translate into an insecticide dose.

I’m surprised you could even buy that shit; I tried the butt juice  and it didn’t work great. Left a funk smell.

3rd world places still use all kinds of ‘old school’ primitive things. India had plenty of Nicotine Sulfate for sale but I assumed the importing would fail.

If anyone has some RPGs for cheap that would be handy for neighbor issues.
