I have read the book a couple of times, makes a lot of sense to me if want to understand human motivation and fear.
Similarly, Denisovans didn’t go “extinct.” They bred with homo sapiens. They were into fucking around! 
Some Melanesians, Aboriginal Australians and Filipino Negritos have been identified as having about 5% Denisovan genetics. Denisovans were a homonid species believed to have lived primarily in what is now Asia and far eastern Europe (read, Siberia).
