I did that exact same thing on at least two jobs that I can remember! (The screw slots, however, would been either vertical or horizontal, not all catywampuss like that.)

That kinda reminds me of how I had to take an angle grinder to my hallway lightswitch. I thought for sure that my new gun safe would fit between it and the corner. Had to shave off about an eighth of an inch, lol.
