It annoys the shit out of me seeing the lurkers that donā€™t contribute to OG winning these competitions but like @George_The_Vault has stated in the past itā€™s a form of advertising and brining the vault new customers is why they do it and allow non productive forum members to enter.
At least we can control the seed run give aways :v:

a little elitist and judgemental perhaps? the idea of overgrow is as a resource to overgrow the world, throw a seed in some dirt by the side of the road and free the weed, not become a closed clique surely?

Yeppers the same way

A lot of ā€œmembersā€ join OG for the competitions only. The only posts they ever make are on the competition threads. The entire point in a forum is to help each other out with advice etc and to contribute. Call me judgemental all you like. Opinions are like assholes. We all have one. It just happens that my opinion is that ā€œproperā€ OG members I feel are a lot more deserving.
Personally if I won any of the competitions Iā€™d give the seeds back to our community to the people that actually need them and not to some seed hoarder that only show his/her face when these giveaways arise. :v:

well anything that both encourages members and growers across the globe has to be a good thing surely? if they do nothing more than register, get some shit and never be seen again the point is it is now one more grower to swell the ranks of the mighty and that has to be a good thing no? perhaps im being naieve

Thatā€™s because they join a comp on another forum and when they follow the link to the retailers page and see they are giving out seeds on multiple sites and so they register hereā€¦ Iā€™m sure some of us do it to other forums as wellā€¦I would but thatā€™s to much extra effort for this guy lol

this has been debated a lot before and i did restrict things before but it just didnā€™t work so well and actually detracts from the whole point of increasing users, exposure etc.

I understand your thoughts and reasons but after a lot of analysis I came to the conclusion that when i run these cross platform promos some people from other forums do join the rest just to post and try to win, and dont continue to engage on the new forums but some do!

Some members on here (I wont name names but feel free to identify yourselves if you see this post) I know used to be super active on other forums and now I see them treat OG as their main forum and are super active here, but this works both ways of course. comes down to personal preference i guess

However, the clincher for me is I also circulate our promos by newsletter to all our subscribers (including our customers who may never even have thought of looking for a forum) and to other places that will attract new users to the forums and The Vault, which means there are a lot of people who prior to this didnā€™t know (or trust) online forums in our industry but via The Vault they get introduced to some forums like OG that we know are good, they find a place they can ask the questions we cant answer (our team will direct these customers to the forums too) and they find a community to be part of, ultimately it then comes down to the forums individual strengths, and community, to retain those new users

so whilst some forum users jump from forum to forum, overall I think via The Vault we boost the active numbers on the forums overall.

When i join a new forum and start promoting it, I always keep an eye on the members numbers too and it always rises sharply, yes not all of these stick around but a fair few do

I think whilst it has some minor downsides, our approach works wellā€¦proved by how many other seedbanks (also remaining un-named) copy our processes!
