Gotcha, thanks. I’ll keep that in mind when I give it a shot. Probably put them out in June.
You can put them in as soon as the ground temperature is 60ish. If you want to get 2 crops they need to go in before June
60 ish is warm enought to germinate seeds or for plants not to die?
Yea I’m not trying to 2 runs personally. I run mainly indoor. Outdoor is just to learn for once it goes legal.
I thought you were ny also but could be wrong. @JustANobody
@amumayuk I was told once soil temperature is 60 to plant. If you put black mulch on your bed it’ll warm you soil up faster for earlier planting.
First time I did autos it freaked me out. I put these little tiny plants out and thought they were all going to die! I got a range of 6 inches to 3 feet tall. I did however start in promix and plant into clay!
I’m fairly close to NY, similar climate. What we have going for us is a southern facing hill.
The farm I’m on has the same thing. Southern facing hill!
They sound like a good outdoor strain. In my area the search for outdoor genetics is on. Everyone went inside and a lot of outdoor stuff was lost.
from what im experiencing over here… legacy growers who held on to cultivars that grew well localy have either faded out because of age and legal framework now in place
so its now down to hunting and holding onto the good ones
im young turning 36 this year and most if not every friend who used to grow dont even bother to because of 40$/oz weed being the goto for 80% of everyone here
now you have to do it for your self and put the extra effort to keep thing for the long terme
i can still see home growing coming back but its only gonna happen when they jack the price up again wich will probly never happen again
Once the small farms are squeezed out the mso will jack the price again. Most people I know have stopped growing also. It’s easy to buy stuff from out of state and flip.
I absolutely thing holding on to good genetics is going to be super important in the future
yeah i totally agree , i wish i could have more space and mobility id expand from my lil 4x4 have a little nurserie for moms a room for each cycle (prop/veg/bloom)
I use all of the above lol, clones of a plant that know is good outdoors sometimes, and seeds other times. I sprout them in paper towels and then in starter cubes, 75 per tray. I don’t think there is much in it except for the certainty that you get from a clone. Maybe a bit faster at the start but it evens out pretty quick. It also depends a bit on what you’re sprouting for, be it product or for seed if finding a pheno etc. I agree with others that start them indoors or in a greenhouse.
man this sounds like similar to my timing if id do multiple rounds
im taking notes on this but i transplant outside at these timings but id like to see how clone rounds would go as im now allowed extras with my acmpr, so ill try to see where i wanna put them extras as i dont have room for more plant near my bed unless i block my car from my storage plateform
Clones are fine really, just couple considerations. If you put clones out they will flower because they are sexually mature.
You need to sort through clones just like seed to find ones that are good for your area.
For sure example Tropicana cherry was no good in the cold wet summer followed by a cold wet fall. Tons of mold
A random plant I put out to fill a spot on the other hand was really mold mildew resistant.
That’ll help but you can put seed plants out in may if temperatures are good and they will be fine.
Clones that go out that early always start to flower on me. I have to put them out June 1 at the earliest
I kept a special landrace sativa outdoor line for the past 3 years. Very vigorous, resistant to bud rot and mildew, large loose flowers with good airflow that can survive my rainy season. but this is the last season I will run it because it is so hard to keep happy indoors during the winter.
If I bonsai it in 1 gallon pots, I can barely keep it from outgrowing the tent before spring. It’s tough to keep happy under artificial light, and doesn’t like to be topped.
Comparing vigor from seed and from clone,
Some grew up to 25 feet from seed. My cloned females topped out around 20 feet. Last year they finished smaller and earlier, around 12-14 feet. A 6 foot guy on a 5 foot stepladder was able to reach the top.
I have been growing these in 120 gallon fabric pots.
When I plant in the ground (amended and aerated volcanic clay soil, nothing fancy) I have found that seedlings usually performed better than clones. The clones have taken longer to get established, and had more health problems at the end of flowering.
Part of this may be that it’s very wet here in spring and fall, and it’s easier for a seedling to adapt to wet dense soil than a clone which has been kept indoor in light well aerated soil and experiencing wet/dry cycles frequently.
