I hadn’t started a seed for years until I did a few seed runs recently. It’s fun but they’re waaay more of a pain in the ass.

4 weeks until sexual maturity, then you can flower a plant smaller than a 4 week clone and hope it’s something good.

I do enjoy the process, but it is tedious and can end up with crappy results due to unknown genetics. My favorite part is selecting a favorite and turning it into a mother!

Also I’ve noticed that a plant is far more vigorous and all around better the second time I run it (ie from a clone from the selected mom), I think they get better as they mature to an extent.

One more thing…I notice no one talks about ‘genetic drift’ anymore. Back in old OG days alot of people thought that a plant lost vigour after being cloned many times as the DNA got watered down or something.

Personally I never found that to be the case, we had mom’s we used for years that were always consistent.

Turns out, this is due to viruses and pathogens not “genetic drift”. A lot of people are doing micro meristem propagation to clean up some of these clones. It can restore vigor on these older gems.

I do both, seed and clone… clones only come from cracking seeds … so I crack hundreds of seeds off my chucks and search through them to find something different to what’s in the stable already … this way it gets harder for something to be kept around if benchmarks are set by what’s already been found if that makes any sense …? I enjoy clone runs indoors as I know what’s coming. Seeds I generally run outdoors or in a greenhouse and enjoy the process of the hunt. It’s not always rewarded with a keeper but it’s still part of the process to find the preciouses hehe

Amen dude , I have piles of great genetics and want to see what’s in there , I figure with a proper timing of plantings a person can make a constant flow of decent females and the diversity is incredible, I have about 500 different strains to play with and always more coming in , so I think I can find a sexy bitch to satisfy my seed making habit.

I never noticed clones being weaker (no taproot) in my indoor closet/tent garden, they seemed to grow the same as seed plants for me. But I grow plants from seed 99% of the time now, just because I like getting a different strain every time, and there are so many strains out there to grow and explore.

I’ve been turned off on buying clones from too many horror stories of spider mites, or thrips…thrip eggs are actually embedded in the leaf tissue…as a 100% organic grower it’s too risky to bring in cuttings

Ya every time I get bugs it’s right after I bring in an outside cutting. I used to isolate them in a different area, and literally dunk them top to bottom in a bucket of whatever insecticide every couple days for the first bit. Then they may be considered ‘clean’ lol

Clones are very business like and efficient. They fulfill expectations.

From seed plants provide a dynamic sense of adventure, as you never know with any certainty what you are gonna get. Of course this can be good or bad.
I really enjoy not knowing what genetic melange I may stumble upon.

I like both. There is an excitement with seeds as they grow, change, and mature. One of the appeals of autoflowers is they are always from seed.

My family gets clones from me. I can tell them what to expect, watch out for, and guarantee they are all keepers.

Well said sir. Seeds are so magical. I’m always wondering if the “next seed” will be the one. If I had to depend on my grow financially, I would definitely be cloning.

Sometimes they fulfill expectations more often not than does

Depends upon what your talking about…generic clone from lord knows where…NOPE, take seeds.

ELITE cut from a KNOWN source…Oh Hell to the YES…fuck them seeds.

:sunglasses:

YES Reynard…they also come with issues, even Elite ones. Why I am at war with mites again after 3 years of 100 % CLEAN…ARGH!!!

Oh I hated that shit with a passion.
Never had any of that crap till started into the clone game, wtf. Pm and mites at the same time.
Bombs, milk, some kind of sulphur sewer type shit, dove soap I could go on and on and on.
What 5-6 years ago and not a one was worth what I lost. I tossed everything.
Since 3 years ago it’s been smooth sailing, alas.
But i moved and it’s all new

I was 100% clean for 3 years. KNEW the RPP and A.H had mites…MY OWN FAULT for stopping treatments on them too early. I just COULD NOT wait to get them into rotation…well, they are in rotation, and now so are soider mites…Fuck me with a Popsicle!
The little ones and the Mom’s are clean, so when the flowering ladies come down, I shall get clean again.

Having RPP and A.H was worth the bullshit…my 2 elite clones are just THAT!!!
